Last week, someone planted bombs near the Baltic Sea gas pipelines that bring natural gas from Russia to Europe. This caper required a great deal of coordination and technical skill, so it was not a group of kids. Everyone knows it was ordered by Washington and probably carried about by the American military. If you head to the big America media platforms, this act of international terrorism that threatens the wellbeing of Europe is barely noticed. The New York Times is obsessing over some old video of Roger Stone and the hurricane. Presumably, they hope the storm wrecks Florida because they hate Florida. The Post has a below the fold story but they are gearing up to claim the terrorism is part of Putin’s dastardly plan to spread disinformation in the West.

Typically, the regime has a narrative ready to go when they pull a caper, but this time they have just been doing the self-satisfied grin. Radek Sikorski is a high ranking Polish politician who is married to Anne Applebaum. She is a member of the Trotsky cult run by Robert Kagan, the husband of Victoria Nuland, who is the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. She is running Ukraine policy. Sikorski tweeted this out moments after the attack.

That pumpkin is a horror. A horror. The only good thing to be said about that Frankenpumpkin is that it has been chopped off its feeding tube and can no longer consume small house pets. I know about this. I know it well from the time when I too raised, ignorant of the horror, my own giant pumpkin back in another time in a world well lost…..

The Pumpkin that Ate My Backyard

It began as a $1.49 seedling at Home Depot which I bought for my stepson to plant.

He planted it, as heedless 9-year-old boys will, in an obscure corner of a sandy bed under some ice plants.

It seemed to me at the time that the pumpkin was going to have a short and shady life.

But then, after about a month, the pumpkin seemed to suddenly clamber across my terrace. Then it strangled the corn plants. That gave it HUNGER and it ate the chair. When it approached the deck it lunged, fell back, and sprouted this “fruit” of the vine.

Now the pumpkin is trying to invade my neighbor’s yard. Last night I heard them outside calling plaintively for their new puppy to come back in, “Snoopy! Little Snoopy! Snoopy, come! Come, Snoopy, Come!”

But answer came there none.

Recently, a certain Mr.Putin of Russia delivered a message to the “Collective West” concerning a war. Mr. Putin, alert, focused, and not at all doddering, was blunt:

Today our armed forces, as I have mentioned, are fighting on the line of contact that is over 1,000 kilometres long, fighting not only against neo-Nazi units but actually the entire military machine of the collective West. …

Washington, London and Brussels are openly encouraging Kiev to move the hostilities to our territory. They openly say that Russia must be defeated on the battlefield by any means, and subsequently deprived of political, economic, cultural and any other sovereignty and ransacked.

They have even resorted to the nuclear blackmail. I am referring not only to the Western-encouraged shelling of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, which poses a threat of a nuclear disaster, but also to the statements made by some high-ranking representatives of the leading NATO countries on the possibility and admissibility of using weapons of mass destruction – nuclear weapons – against Russia.

I would like to remind those who make such statements regarding Russia that our country has different types of weapons as well, and some of them are more modern than the weapons NATO countries have. In the event of a threat to the territorial integrity of our country and to defend Russia and our people, we will certainly make use of all weapon systems available to us. This is not a bluff.

For several years one of my go-to YouTube channels for an escape from the humdrum days and the unfolding political horrorshow was Stealth Camping with Steve Wallis.

Genuine, humble, and indefatigable, it was my pleasure to watch Wallis’ life improve as his strange channel devoted to camping overnight in strange spaces grew. I’m sure nobody was more surprised by this success than Wallis. Helping him step by step all along the way was a woman he always referred to as “Beautiful Wife.” And now, suddenly and shockingly, Beautiful Wife — Jessica Audrey —  died in her sleep last week leaving Wallis battered and bereft. Here is a short video that he just released on this catastrophe; genuine and full of heart as Wallis has always been.

Prayers, please, for Beautiful Wife to be taken gently into the heart of God. Prayers too for Wallis in his unfathomable grief and loss.

Update today just to keep folks here in the know about Steve and his plans for the future. Still one of the most genuine of YouTubers, Wallis is searching for a way forward after a great loss.

How you gonna keep ’em down on the farm after they’ve seen Philly?

Most children are afraid of the dark. I know that I was. Parents who are too tough deny you the nightlight or the cracked door letting in a distant glow from the front room or from downstairs. Parents who are too kind leave the door ajar or plug in the nightlight. A lot of parents, tough or kind, help you learn a prayer familiar to hundreds of millions of people:

“Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake….”

It is not clear that the prayer helps allay the fear of the dark and of death in that dark, but as children we learn it anyway. It is probably the first prayer that is learned. Its lesson is that, parent or child, we are hostage to fortune or to His ineffable will. Being bound to His will is one of the most fundamental calisthenics of faith.

Most children remain afraid of the dark but learn not to admit it. At some point, you are instructed to grow out of it. You become an adult; no longer a slave to childish fears without foundations. You tell yourself, “I’m not afraid of the dark.” You’re lying but, like so many other lies that let you get through the day, you lie this lie for so long that you forget it is what it is; a lie.

I feared the dark as a child and when I grew to be a man I still felt uneasy when consigned to a room that was “too dark.” I developed some manly and not-so-manly methods for mitigating the dark — light curtains, dim baseboard night lights in the hallway, falling asleep with the television on a timer, votive candles, the whole inventory, the entire catastrophe. After some years of sleeping safe within these rituals and relics, I forgot that I was, in the core of my being, still afraid of the dark; afraid that “I should die before I wake.”

And then I did. Die, that is.

The thing about dying and then being returned to life is that, like a ghost half-seen out of the corner of the eye or in a shadow on the stairs, the experience keeps coming back. You think you’ve pretty much exhausted what you think about it — exhausted all there is to think about it — and then you are presented with a new moment, a new cause for reflection. The Death of Pennsylvania’s Forgotten Funeral Pie Of all the parties to crash, a funeral in the traditionally parsimonious Mennonite community doesn’t seem like an obvious choice. But the funerary feast was a rare opportunity for extravagance among Pennsylvania Germans. Instead of the usual cabbage and dumplings, there was beef, ham, or chicken. Instead of the usual coarse rye bread, there was white or wheat. The fixation on funeral food even made its way into slang: In 1907, a grandmother recounted how “thoughtless youngsters” called funerals weissbrot-frolics, or “white bread frolics.”

But the sweet star of the funeral banquet was raisin pie, a dish so tied to the event that it became a euphemism for death itself. When an ailing member of the community took a turn for the worse, it was not uncommon to hear someone solemnly declare, “There will be raisin pie soon.”

Last night President Putin declared that he was ready to defend the territorial integrity of Russia by any means at hand. This morning the West’s propaganda machines (aka The Media) want its illiterati to think he’s a power-crazed totalitarian and went to war with only the aim of conquering the Ukraine. That goal may or may not be true. Most mouth-breathing morons in the “collective West” believe that Russia has done this “without provocation.”

On the contrary, my dear Watson, the West has been poking the Russian bear for decades while pouring a full-tilt “Hate Russia” propaganda stream into the echoing brain-pans of their citizenry. Think of all the standard villains the Russians have replaced in our films and novels and other weapons of mass distraction over the last 20 years. Your standard villains such as oh, “The Hun,” “The Krauts,” “The Nips,” “The Korean Commies,” “The Chinese Commies,” “The Commies,” “The Viet Cong,” “The Black Panthers,” “The Muslims,” “The Mexican Banditos;” all have been replaced by “The Russians” (Mafia or Otherwise.) This relentless demonization has been so successful that the West, with the “US White House” leading the parade, is heading right into the blind alley of nuclear destruction.

This “Hate Thy Russkies” campaign has been so successful that many of Biden’s 81 Million dead voters are cheering nuclear war on. Clearly, since they are willing to elect a bowl floater as president to avoid ‘mean tweets’ they are ready to go along with having the sun pay a visit to the surface of the earth.
