19 And the Lord spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.
20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the Lord commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. — Exodus 7:18-20

Pharaoh’s men may have had the best uniforms, but those schmucks always paid retail and didn’t know jack shit about how to go about cornering the market in grain. Plus they didn’t get to publish their version. Losers!
I wonder if that’s Siwa Oasis on the left, a third of the way down?

Not according to this:

Correct. Siwa was much farther north. Alexander went there to be proclaimed a god. Cambyses (r. 530 – 522 BC) 200 years before Alexander sent 20,000 Persian soldiers across the desert to conquer Siwa. They never arrived, and in fact disappeared from History. To this day rando Egyptians from time to time come across ancient bucklers, shields and swords, all signs that 2500 years ago the Persians had tried to march there, but in fact entered Eternity.
Once again you send me to the dictionary.
Buckler: small, round shield.
When I joined the army my family lived on Buckler Rd in Iona FL.
50 years later I find out what it means, because of a dood in Ok that I never knew til now.
And this is why blogs and their comment threads are so wonderful. Plenty of dross, but every now and then one learns a new thing. Or occasionally even a Big New Thing. Gerard’s diggings and tailings are one of the better places to go diamond hunting.
