“If a government cannot prove the honesty and accuracy of the elections by which they claim authority over the people, then the people are neither legally nor morally obligated to obey that government’s dictates nor to pay its bills nor to send their children to die in that government’s wars, and may with full moral justification resist with lethal force efforts to coerce said dictatorship, looting, and conscription.” — Michael Rivero

This debate will be a bloodletting.

I want to see her crying.

Any bets on 1) who the actual candidates will be come Nov (ie, are either or both of them alive?) , 2) who wins and when, and 3) who actually takes (control of) office.
There may be 3 different yet correct answers

When I was younger, so much younger than today, I would watch convention speeches and debates on the teevee in real time. I lost my taste for them. The speeches were all fake, sound and fury signifying nothing. The debates are all fake drama, I figured that out when I watched the immediately-after spin-doctors in the spin-rooms try and tell we the people what was just seen. Noise that told us to ignore our own lying eyes and ears, forget about all that, here’s a comfortable substitute fantasy of what was seen and heard.

It also came about I think because of all these years in the wilderness: my preferred candidates always lose, self-destruct, or show themselves to be controlled opposition. The illusion that there is a choice. Why bother listening when it’s a bunch of charlatans, both in on the con, going through the motions to gull the rubes. I got tired of the endless disappointment.

The few snippets of the Fraudulent’s debate with Trump that I saw in the days following did not match the narratives pushed by all of the adversaries. Which means the debates are just random raw materials from which narratives are created and consensualized. What’s different this time around is that there are so many alt-voices, the big news networks no longer can quickly “write the first draft of history” and make everyone believe it.

So I will avoid the news for several days, and wait for the fake and gay narratives to stabilize, and then dip my eyes and ears back into the news flow and see just how bad we’re being boned this time. Same as it ever was. Bohica, again and again and again, world without end.

They say, I ought not to complain because I’ve chosen to not be in the arena. And I say, why should I, it’s all kayfabe.

I’ll watch a few mins at the front end but that’s all.
Neither will say what I desperately need to hear, and both will say a lot of stuff that disgusts me.

possum got gagged overnight on the road out front so I got to watch the buzzards do their thing from a distance. Ghastly.

      Got my Caldwell shooting sled.
Set it on a big wooden spool and leveled it all up nicely then I grabbed my Marlin model 60 .22.
Aimed at a 8″ gong 75′ away. Couple shots, couple clicks on the turrets, couple more shots, couple more clicks. About 3 hours ago with the 60 strapped down I was able to put all 17 in the same spot.

Somebody should invent an adapter for a handheld leaf blower. It would have a harness to put the blower on your back and a remote cable for the throttle. The nozzle would aim downward. Then there would be an accordian pipe attached to the nozzle that split into two, one for each leg. The 2 new nozzles would exhaust off the top of each boot, forward. Just walk around in the yard blowin’ leaves til the kowz come home.

2 C130’s went over real low this afternoon. Both banked hard right, could see in the windshields. I almost nutted.

      • John Anthony Fleming September 10, 2024, 8:16 PM

Yeah, I’ve been looking at a lead sled for years, wishing I could justify the expense. And then I think, if I just use good sandbag rests and shoot careful with good trigger technique, I can sight in my gear with just a few more bulls. Practice technique and sight in at the same time. Expend more cartridges at 50¢-$1.50 a pop. I’d have to be a jittery shooter to justify buying a sled and saving money overall. Every time I go to the sporting good stores I stand there and look at the sleds, and then walk away. Seems too much for something I’ll use infrequently. Someday when my ship comes in maybe …

Plus it’s the nuisance of schlepping more gear to and from the range. It’s easy for you out in the country, I live in the ‘burbs.

  • ghostsniper September 10, 2024, 7:30 PM

    9 mins was my limit.
I can’t see any value in it.

Think the “diversity is our strength” folks will eat the swans that grace our public parks? Swans can vigorously defend themselves.

  • John Anthony Fleming September 10, 2024, 8:37 PM

Anne, here’s something in your area. Two young men were bowhunting for elk in eastern Idaho and survived a sudden and ferocious grizzly attack. They expended 24 rounds of full-power 10mm and .45 ACP between the two of them to put down the bear. Oh to be young and quick-thinking, to have the presence of mind that these guys did, how they worked together to help each other survive.

Definitely worth a read. If you’re going in grizz country, bring big-bore pistols with hot hunting loads and extra magazines. And make sure you are ready to draw, fire and reload at any time, you may have only seconds.

Both candidates lost some points due to a lack of answers or incomplete or obtuse answers, but Harris seems to have fallen behind there. I didn’t score each point; Pro Trump News headlines detail how badly Harris did on several points.

It was Trump vs the 2 moderators and Kamala. The mods kept correcting Trump on several things (wrongly and with standard BS) and by the same token threw many softballs at Kamala. When they finally did give her a hardball question, you could almost see the nod where they were “wink, wink” we gave you these ahead of time. Just like it was shown to be the case with Hillary.

To my ear, and IDK what voters will think, Harris sounded empty and nasal. Trump was in better form than she, although not his fire-breathing best self. The debate rules and format all conspired to weaken Trump’s strong points, since there was no audience, and the mics were off until the mods decided to tune in the candidate. Always a few words late on Trump.

I’ll be interested to hear if any moderate voters got anything from this. Harris did, in prejudicial form, throw Biden right the fuck under the bus. Biden? Who dat? Man, fuck Biden! It may be true he is better forgotten by all, and especially his own kinsmen and kind, but that dearth of loyalty was creepy.

We had a griz in the pasture next to our house a couple of weeks ago. The facts are I cannot handle a large gun. One of the gentlemen at the armory suggested I carry a Ruger 101 loaded with big .38 ammo. I can handle that little .38 caliber gun. My thought is to add a small laser. I am not smart enough to pull the bear spray and the gun. My best hope is to always have my car close by! Thanks for thinking of me. If you think of an automatic that maybe these old weak hands could use effectively please post a note!

    • John A. Fleming September 10, 2024, 11:15 PM

Hi Anne, it seems from the literature that it takes a lot of firepower to shut down a grizzly. If their dander is up they can absorb a lot of hurt and still keep dishing it out. These two young men had powerful handguns with hot cartridges and they had lots of trouble. Only high-power rifles and good shot placement will shut down a grizzly on the first or second shot. If you can’t handle a hand-cannon, the next bet might be a carbine or bullpup chambered in .30 cal or hotter, that you can easily carry slung over your shoulder or on your back. I don’t know, shooting a grizzly with a .38 special revolver or pistol will probably just make it madder.

What happened is they surprised the grizzly while it was bedding down. If you give the grizzly enough notice that people are coming, it might mosey off to find another place. On that day, it didn’t feel like backing down, it finally got sick and tired of always having to retreat and so decided to make a stand.

I guess that’s why in grizzly country, people carry bells and talk loud and stuff. When you out and about, be noisy, and don’t quietly rush into enclosed woods where you can’t see very far. Announce yourself. I guess that doesn’t work for hunters stalking game, though, so they are more at risk. On your place, just make sure you announce yourself, scan the area thoroughly, and be careful walking around corners of the house or other outbuildings. Better to stand away from the building when walking around it, you’ll see the grizzly sooner and give you both time to avoid an up-close and personal encounter.

Here’s a fun picture of a mama bear and her cub, over at Daily Timewaster. Bears are mostly ok, they just want to eat berries and carrion and anything else they can find, but they sure don’t like being surprised.

The “wildlife experts” say that if a bear is charging you, and you don’t have firepower, don’t run for sure, but get down on the ground, roll up in a ball, face down, hands on the back of your head. The bear “might” take your submissive posture as something not very interesting and only give you a few bites. But then again, it might decide to teach you a lesson, depending on how hungry and ornery it is today. Nobody wins a fight with a bear, best that happens is survival.

You could tell, by the way he walked into the room, that he didn’t want to be there.
Trump didn’t even want to be in that woman’s presence.

It was so far beneath him that the very thought was repulsive.

He, a self made billionaire many times over, and a former president of the US.

Her, a common negro skreet hor, with no accomplishments, just like every other common negro skreet hor you can easily see in any metropolis across the fruited plane.

Then, to be heckled, harrassed, and insulted by such a lowly, criminal creature, who was facilitated and encouraged by the media, and a large portion of the immature american population.

While I hope the best for Trump and honestly wish he could do what he believes is right, but my core values and long term historical american knowledge believes the experiment is too far gone and will never come “back”.

Through the dense future fog I see something new eventually emerging, something that will take many years to get to a place considered wide scale society, and only after some seriously violent and prolonged culling happens.

From the lowest greasy, crime infested gutter in the worst place in an american metropolis to the gilded statue atop the capital building, every single facet of the original american lifestyle has been poisoned in such a way as to be completely unredeemable.

A cost, and a waste, of unimaginable magnitude brought about by the overwhelming desire for criminal greed and power by many.

    I yearn deeply for justice.

    • John A. Fleming September 11, 2024, 12:09 PM

      Hi Mr. GS,
Despite “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, …”, there is no justice in this world. You will not get justice from this government, nor will retribution be applied to those who wrong you. You can only hope for divine retribution, or revenge in the next life. Hope is pretty hopeless.

I guess I’m following Zeno/Marcus Aurelius stoicism here. You live, life pounds the crap out of you, people injure you, you fight like hell to stay alive and do good, and then you die. That’s the best you can hope for. Do good and be good while you can, and absorb whatever injuries befall you without complaint. Whatever happens after that is not your concern in the here and now.

It sucks, our Constitution has totally failed in securing justice. Thinking philosophically, is it even possible to secure justice? I think what they call “justice”, is just the disallowing of the feud, vendetta, and weregild. And replacing it with … nothing.

Thank you both for helping me to open the conversation with DH. To date, he has always been stubborn about the issue of what I should have with me–just in case. Now, we are talking about stock length and the possibility of a .308 for me. It’s a good start because I already know intuitively that I would be more comfortable with a rifle with a girl sized stock and laser.

  • Snakepit Kansas September 12, 2024, 7:20 AM

I see no value in a laser on a pistol. It will only magnify how unsteady the average hold is from a person. There is no substitute for practice.

More than a few times someone of smaller stature has come to the gun range I work at and advised they wanted a small .38, then realize how much recoil is felt when actually shooting a small gun. At minimum get a decent sized .38, practice frequently using range loads but have it ready to do harm using +P ammunition. Practice drawing and shooting, over and over. Do some push-ups to get your heart beating, then do your drills. Drill some more.

You will fight like you train.

    Hi Anne,
Here’s an example of a 7.62×51/.308 Winchester-chambered bullpup rifle, a K&M Arms Model M17S308. With a 16.5″ barrel, it’s overall length is 26.25, and 8.2 lbs weight. Closer to 9 lbs operational weight when loaded with a 10-rd or 5-rd magazine plus sights plus sling.

I’m making no recommendations about this firearm, I’ve never used a bullpup. But if I had a mission for a relatively compact powerful firearm to carry slung over the back while working around the homestead, and the weight is heavy enough that recoil will be tolerable, I would look at all the manufacturers of rifles like these. Like everything else, funky designs away from the norm sometimes come with funky tradeoffs. Perhaps there are firearms dealers or ranges where they have these and you could try them out.

    • Anonymous September 12, 2024, 4:41 PM

That’s Model M17S308, sorry about the failed link in the previous post.

  • Casey Klahn September 12, 2024, 5:30 PM

Anne, fascinating to see a grizz in real life! I had the occasion to pull my pistol on a large black bear in a cinnamon phase, who I had to determine if he was grizz or black, such was his huge size. He was within pistol range!

The only time I’ve seen a grizzly outside of the zoo was on a Canadian highway, and did stop to watch him for awhile. He was a leviathan. They are not to be messed with.

So, after I survived this bear encounter (I’ve encountered black bear many times at close range, and been alone just me and Yogi. It’s never been that remarkable an experience, but when they are big and too close, it is more than remarkable!) -back on subject – I studied up on whether my big 6 inch .357 Magnum was enough gun in case I’d have pulled the trigger. What I found out was that 99.999% of the internet authors on the subject never shot a bear. My own dad shot 5, and made light of it as far as being game. It’s easy hunting with a 30.06 or bigger rifle.

To cut to the chase, one author had shot some bear with handgun. He notes that .357 magnum is non-optimal but will do the job with proper shot placement. You’ll actually wish for the best rounds and the heavier loads, or a bigger caliber. Do not try this at home.

I went out and got slugs for my .12 gauge since the bear encounter was within a half mile of my house.

Best wishes. My advice is don’t encounter the bear at close distance.
