Where the Sidewalk Ends
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

The People Yes
The steel mill sky is alive.
The fire breaks white and zigzag
shot on a gun-metal gloaming.
Man is a long time coming.
Man will yet win.
Brother may yet line up with brother:
This old anvil laughs at many broken hammers.
There are men who can’t be bought.
The fireborn are at home in fire.
The stars make no noise,
You can’t hinder the wind from blowing.
Time is a great teacher.
Who can live without hope?
In the darkness with a great bundle of grief
the people march.
In the night, and overhead a shovel of stars for keeps, the people
march:
“Where to? what next?”

From the headline I understood that the bulldozer (excavator actually) was going to destroy the building using fireworks.
I still can’t figure out how he made the excavator fall over but it made me laugh
Scared the operator, and made him back into a ditch.
Admire that fella. Unfortunately fireworks aren’t going to work here.
I expect he’ll be invited down to the station to discuss his conflict resolution strategy and mull over it and write a self-reflective essay for local public consumption. Might cop a few weeks administrative detention in the slammer without ever seeing a judge.
Red Tyranny at work. Just another day where you don’t get SWATted for taking a stand.
Probably an issue of his not liking the amount of compensation on offer for his house being Rachel Corried. Usually fair bit of graft and corruption around these land resumptions, but you’d still be surprised just how much pull established local *registered* (as opposed to migrant worker) residents have in terms of getting a fair deal out of their local governments most of the time.
There’s plenty of rugged individualists in China when their backs are to the wall. We tend to think they’re all mindless yellow marching robots because they’re not Contumacious like us Whiteys. They only kick up a stink when they really don’t like something — not on a hair trigger the way we mostly are.
