I dunno. It’s 5.5 years later. The young man would be wearing a Brandon t-shirt, and the the cabin crew would complain to the captain, who would kick him off, and the moment he gave them any sass they would recommend to the Federals that he be placed on the permanent no-fly list. The airlines despise their customers. While they don’t like wearing masks themselves, they are perfectly happy to have all of us wearing masks forever, and they are happy to constantly nag us to death about it. Power over others does that to people: the powerful always despise the powerless.

What would I do if my wife started acting like that? I hope that I would have done this.

1.a. If she did exchange places, then I would be polite and courteous to the young man, and ignore her as I’d ignore a misbehaving child. I would be trying to show the young man that we are civilized, that he can count on me at least to be civilized, respectful and courteous. It’s a man-to-man interaction, men know that women can let their emotions run away with them, and that we men must be the rock of stability for civilization.
2. If she refused to exchange seats, I’d tell her to apologize to the young man for her rude behavior and to drop it right now, that the young man has done nothing wrong.
3. If she refused to drop it and apologize, I’d tell her I’m getting off the plane, I’d ring up the cabin crew and ask to deplane. I might tell the cabin crew if they ask for a reason why, that she is unable to maintain appropriate behavior in accordance with the airline’s Contract of Carriage. Sorry all women, not sorry, men are no longer responsible for their wives’ behavior, when somebody asks “Who b**** dis is?”, I’m not answering.
4. What happens next is a little sketchy, and depends on the unpredictable behavior of a woman. But once I have committed to getting off the plane, I’m out of there and no longer interested in what she does. I’ll make my own follow-on travel arrangements.

I lived in Portland on and off for 30 years (1959 – 1993). Such couples as that married—so they claim—male and female are as common as dust. Some observations:
1. She claimed to be heading home for a funeral. She was probably lying.
2. The male was very used to such behavior on the part of his mate.
3. She was the boss in that family.
4. He was a beta weakling.
5. He was quite used to being publicly embarrassed and humiliated by his harridan strew of a wife.
6. They had one Hell of an argument when they got off that plane. In public.
7. They had gone through this before.
8. She will publicly berate her husband over this even for years to some. She will never forget.
It is a complete waste of time to imagine what you would do in such a situation. Who here at American Digest would be married to such a female?
