Noted in Passing: It’s Time by Jordan Peterson

Excerpt: Jordan Peterson: Open the damn country back up, before Canadians wreck something we can’t fix | National Post

I was recently in Nashville, Tennessee. No lockdowns. No masks. No COVID regulations to speak of. People are going about their lives. Why can that be the case in Tennessee (and in other U.S. states, such as Florida) when there are curfews (curfews!) in Quebec, two years after the pandemic started, with a vaccination rate of nearly 80 per cent? When BC is still limiting social gatherings? When we are putting tremendous and unsustainable strain on all the complex systems that have served us so well, and made us so comfortable, in the midst of the troubles of our lives?

The cure has become worse than the disease.

I have spoken with senior advisors to provincial governments in Canada. There is no end game in sight. The idea that Canadian policy is or should be governed “by the science” is not only not true, it’s also not possible, as there is no simple pathway from the facts of science to the complexities of policy. We are deciding, by opinion poll, to live in fear, and to become increasingly authoritarian in response to that fear. That’s a danger, too, and it’s increasingly real. How long are we going to flail about, hiding behind our masks, afraid to send our children (who are in no danger more serious than risk of the flu) to school, charging university students full tuition for tenth-rate online “education,” pitting family member against family member over vaccine policy and, most seriously, compromising the great economic engine upon which our health also depends?

My small business has been crushed, sales have all but stopped since the middle of November. Have started the process of clearing out the clutter and old stock, etc. that should have been trashed years ago. All that’s left, less a sudden change, is deciding exactly when to close the doors on a company my late father started in 1989 and that I’ve been at for 25 years.

I’d like to thank Brandon in person but I couldn’t afford the gas for the trip.

    • Mike Seyle January 14, 2022, 6:32 AM

Tim, I hope (no, pray) you surface from this blow before long. It’s a tough one, especially in the grayness of winter. Remember that spring is reliably forecast; the sun (or son) does remarkable good. I was in a similar position once, sat on the back porch and gave it all up, in peace. God took it from there.

What’s your inventory? What do you sell?

  • Mike Austin January 13, 2022, 3:28 PM

Peterson writes “a cry from the heart” but it will go unread in the halls of the Canadian government. The ruling class of Canada is not interested in reason or Socratic Dialogue or science or the voice of its people; it is interested in power; it revels in tyranny. Peterson wasted his time.

A bit below Peterson’s article in the National Post is another article, one that really and truly says how the Canadian elites think and act. It is titled, “Best sites to order face masks for kids 2022.” Some gems:

“Where to find N95 masks online for the little ones…Some parents feel they are skating on thin ice by not getting the proper mask to protect their children…But it is proving stressful for many as debate continues across the country on whether or not children should be back at school at all or relegated to online learning from home instead. And finding N95 masks for children seems to be a challenge…Add to that, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed concerns this week that too few Canadian youngsters are vaccinated against COVID-19. That as the latest variant, Omicron, continues to spread quickly through communities adding pressure on already burdened health-care systems.”

This nonsense goes on and on, and then leads to yet another propaganda piece:

“Parents coast-to-coast coping with a mid-pandemic return to school for their children.” It is pure lies and propaganda, groveling and mendacious, odious and slavish, and right out of Huxley and Orwell.

    Some highlights:

Swati Anand…is worried about sending her four-year-old daughter, Ishi, back to school next week without the protection of an N95 mask and the option to get a vaccine.
“She is in junior kindergarten and come Monday she starts school,” she says.
“Because she is not yet five, she can’t get vaccinated.”
Several hours sleuthing online only proved frustrating when Anand was unable to find masks that would fit her little one. And three–ply masks, while an available option, didn’t go far enough to make her feel comfortable.
“We drop her off and pick her up, in part because of COVID,” she says. “Even before Omicron, all the kids wore masks and I bought her a tonne of cute, colourful masks. Now with Omicron being airborne we have gotten ourselves N95 masks but don’t know where to get one for her.”
While she is grateful for her child to be able to return to school, in part because it “ensures she can hold down a job,” she worries about the very real health risk.
“Once she is there, she is with all these other kids. I would feel significantly more comfortable if she had an N95 mask,” she says.”

Whoever this “Swati Anand” is—and what a real Canadian name she has—she is one of Aristotle’s “natural slaves”. From where she is mentally, emotionally and psychologically there is no going back. She is the Perfect Canadian Citizen.

Peterson thought he was writing for her and all Canadians like her. But they are not paying attention. They don’t have to.

I live in a progressive island in the middle of a free state. I am alarmed when I see the school bus disgorging a group of mask wearing teens who continue to wear their masks as they walk home. What happened to their natural rambunctiousness? Compliant teenagers are scary.

      • Mike Austin January 13, 2022, 10:56 PM

“Compliant teenagers are scary.” True, and probably never more so than during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, the reign of Pol Pot in Cambodia and the Hitler Youth of the Nazi period. Boys and girls become unthinking monsters, killing hordes of men and women at the behest of those who control them. There is no reasoning with such beasts.

  • PubliusII January 13, 2022, 5:07 PM

Canadians — I’m married to one and have lived a number of years there and (pre-Covid-insanity) visited at least once a year — are for the most part content with Government by Bureaucrat. (And Quebec doubles that because it’s French and wants to be more….I dunno, something…than the anglophone part of the country.)

I suspect that the last three Anglosphere countries to emerge from the statist insanity will be Canada (third last), Australia (second last) and New Zealand (dead — not a pun — last). Hope I’m wrong.

    • Mike Austin January 13, 2022, 11:27 PM

That is, if those three nations emerge at all. Their ruling classes are all infected with the same madness—a madness which is getting worse not better. England herself has gone insane. That leaves the free people in the US of all the Anglosphere as the only holdouts, though even some of the sane redoubts have pockets of crazy folks—Austin, Texas for one example.

I laugh when I hear someone from the “prepper community” talk about bug-out locations, and always Canada, Australia and New Zealand are mentioned. These nations must find a way to free themselves from tyranny first, although I have no idea how they can accomplish that. My “bug-out” location is my apartment in Oklahoma City. It is a shame, because Canada has some of the most beautiful land on earth.

  • Tom Hyland January 13, 2022, 5:34 PM

I live in bat-shit crazy New Mexico. Take a look. https://www.multistate.us/issues/covid-19-mask-mandates-by-state

    • Mike Austin January 13, 2022, 11:34 PM

New Mexico is in fine company, joining the entire West Coast, Illinois and New York. And this agit-prop nonsense from that government website caught my eye:

“States realize that convincing more residents to wear masks is one way to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 without resorting to shuttering the economy. With that in mind, political leaders have made the tough decision to require residents to wear masks or facial coverings. Currently, the key variable for state mask requirements is whether vaccinated individuals are included in the requirements. The map below, updated daily, shows how states are imposing mask mandates.”

Who are they trying to convince with this bizarro-world blather? Does anyone really believe such crap?

      • Tom Hyland January 14, 2022, 9:35 AM

Does anyone really believe such crap?? It’s called religion, Mike. When people BELIEVE their faith, it’s science-be-damned. Insult their belief, their community of believers, their newly faith-based purpose for existence, and the ridiculed will gather sticks, branches and timbers and set you on fire. The thing with all of these masked-up states is they have a Democrat governor currently in office. Our governor is currently walking on thin ice. New Mexico is comprised of 33 counties and 2/3’s of the Sheriffs here are vehemently opposed to the entire pandemic charade and it’s implications. Lincoln County Sheriff Mike Wood wrote a cease and desist letter to Gov. Michelle a year ago January informing her that any state agent or police officer that harasses an individual or business within his district will be arrested. Santa Fe County is bat-shit crazy with the covid religion but travel any direction out of here and life is the old normal.

  • Kevin in PA January 13, 2022, 6:47 PM

Here in PA we have local shit-weasels in the district attorney’s office that take it upon themselves to make rules that supersede state law. And of course, there is a fat badge willing to enforce the rule (not a law).

“Wednesday January 12th 2022 7:00 p.m. a group of parents attempted to enter Wyoming valley West School district in Kingston Pennsylvania. They were denied entrance based on not having a mask, nothing more. Several parents had exemptions medical and religious. The chief of the Kingston Police Dept. said he’s acting under the authority of the Luzerne County DA. Those without a mask regardless of exemption were denied entrance.

“In December Pennsylvania Supreme Court struck down the mask mandate, for a second time. Wyoming valley West School district immediately implemented a mask mandate of their own, possibly illegally.”

Watch this 2 minute video and tell me masks are effective to protect you against airborne anything. Yeah… you can’t spit on anyone directly… that’s what a mask can guarantee.

    • Jack January 14, 2022, 6:57 AM

Excellent demo and a demonstration of just how ineffective masks are to halt what one might breathe out. And, they certainly don’t keep the molecules of anything out of your “area” whether it is a fresh breath of covid or something from spit, if you to run into spitters.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the damned fools in our government told us we had to wear plastic gold-fish style bubble helmets attached to an external oxygen tank.

Some might call that living but I don’t.

    • Denny January 14, 2022, 12:07 PM

The wonderful efficiency of a surgical mask to keep out/in a virus is something akin to surrounding
your property with three strands of posted barbed wire as a barrier for flies or mosquitos.

  • John A. Fleming January 13, 2022, 9:25 PM

No wonder why JAP is such a sourpuss and drug addict. The Canada of his youth is gone and cannot be recovered. Fidel Castro’s son and all his ilk are in charge, and the people vote over and over again for soft marxist tyranny. I expect that the US will pass through the fire before Canadistan, and once again those who cannot tolerate a free American republic will flee to the north. It looks like CA/OZ/NZ are all outdoing one another to see who can give up the fastest without bloodshed all of their ancient and honorable liberties. Even now, CA/OZ/NZ kiss the chains that they gladly bind themselves with.

    • Mike Austin January 15, 2022, 2:41 AM

Justin Trudeau is what one would expect from a man whose mother was an international whore and whose father was a totalitarian mass murderer. Canadians like him though.

  • Dirk January 14, 2022, 9:37 AM

The Sham’s over, my evidence, did you happen to catch the Rose Parade, any of the Bowl games. Almost zero masks. Only the deaf dumb and blind, are playing, those whom have a medical need, are wearing masks.

Did you catch the Alabama / Georgia bowl game? Maybe a 100, out of sixty thousand, we’re masked up. It’s over, except for the govt, those making bank on the China bug.

The Dems are DOA without the China bug, folks just might focus on life and exactly how truly bad the US is under this Biden regime.

Naturally MSM will continue to blabber about it. Imagine, without Trump or the bug, they just might be required to address the truth of the situation.

Saw this morning that CNN viewerships down 90%. The other left wing rags, dropping like a rock.

Last week in Costco we did not have masks on, we’re confronted by the greeter. Wife said really were about to drop a 1000.00 in your place maybe more if we find exactly what we’re looking for. , and your worried about a mask.

Come on in folks, shop till ya drop!

We’re done, but then we never started. We got the bug we dealt with it. Life goes on.

Cartoonist Scott Adams has reduced himself to a gasping, breathing cartoon himself since he confessed he’s been vaxxed. Adams BELIEVES the biggest lie ever perpetrated which has got his millions of followers delivering blowback on a daily basis now. Spend just 2 minutes with Scott and witness for yourself how a cornered brain-donor lashes out as his online empire collapses in real time.

Damn. What a guy! Vox Day recently did a takedown of Adams as well. I would imagine that Adams’ girlfriend will leave him after this. Maybe the “vaxx” made him nuts. Maybe he was nuts all along. Maybe he is just a narcissistic prick. Maybe all three.

    • iggy January 14, 2022, 9:19 PM

      Cartoonist?
      No, a cartoon.
A vile, despicable, self repudiating cartoon.

I feel somewhat sorry for Canadians, as they are about to suffer the same fate as California, New York, and other liberal-ruined countries and states.
They are facing a massive government gun confiscation effort on April 30 of this year.
    https://gunsinthenews.com/canadian-confiscation-day-looming/

Just as in Germany in 1939, the people will have allowed a tyrant to take away the very weaponry they would need in order to fight tyranny and treason.

Somewhat disguised as a “buy-back” program, it will not lower crime or murder rates, it will only disarm law-abiding citizens.
If buy-backs actually worked, why wouldn’t the government offer buy-backs for heroin, fentanyl, crack, meth, or opioids– the actual major causes of crime and death?
