Boomer Surfin’: Pipeline

“Surfs Up! Fender Deluxe 8, Em11 tuning. (high to low) G E D B A F# D B I came up with this tuning specifically to play this song. It’s not one of the standard tunings.” — (12) Doug Beaumier

Then there’s the classic:

What a shame
It is to see
That new Americans
Shall never be
Free as We.

    If you can find it, the version done by Mermen is superb.

    As to the quote, I beg to differ. They will be free-er than we were or we will all be dead. Looking back I realize how little actual liberty we had; the elites were in power even in my childhood and had been for a half-century by then.
    For Pipeline, love ’em all. Still like the version the Ventures did in the 80’s with Peter Frampton sitting in.

    Not a quote. I made it up as I was slapping together this blogmontage. And freedom, as we know, is relative.

    I haven’t clicked the videos yet, but I will. There’s a great video of the Chantays doing Pipeline live on The Lawrence Welk Show. They really look like a nice bunch a’ kids.

    Photo of flaming guy at Teahupo’o (a freakishly crazy wave in Tahiti, similar in many ways to Pipeline) is Jamie O’Brien (J.O.B.) He lives two houses away from the actual Pipeline in Hawaii, and posts videos twice a week to his YouTube channel. Recently he and a couple friends tackled huge waves on an inflatable raft.

    @Boat Guy
    …Looking back I realize how little actual liberty we had….

    I travel for a living (airline pilot) and I once had a very interesting conversation with guy on Palau (which is kind of a honeymoon/vacation destination for the Japanese). We had rented a car to go to the northern tip of the island, and came upon their seat of government…which is about a 1/3 size replica of our Capital (funded by the Chinese, as it turns out….the Palauans know how to play one power against the other). Anyway, this guy was a landscaper at their Capital, and he had lived for a while in Hawaii as well as with a sister in Virginia. He said that he chose to return to Palau. He pointed out that Americans think that they’re free, but that they’re not free at all. If an American wants to do pretty much anything….make an improvement to his house, go fishing, sell his wares, whatever….that he had to get permission from somebody somewhere in order to do that. In Palau, he could just build onto his house as he wished, fish when, and for what he wanted, sell things to his fellow Palauans (or the tourists) at whatever the market will bear. Most of us have known relatively little liberty….we’ve always been pretty constrained here. But your point that it is getting worse is well made.

    The only way defensive people can make a claim about the freedom in the US is to compare to something drastically different, like 20th century communism for example. azlibertarian is exactly right.

    Today I received my “lifetime” concealed carry permit in the mail after waiting for it since Oct when I applied for a renewal. The old one was for 5 years and expired on my birthday 3 months ago. Strangely enough, I received my drivers license in 8 days. An almost 5 month wait for a renewal to an existing carry license, I’ll remind you, that is an illegal requirement by way of the now mostly ignored constitution. Yes, small c.

    That carry license cost me $65 plus another $40 to the sheriff plus another $25 to a facility that took my fingerprints. Nevermind my fingerprints have been recorded no less than 20 times during my adulthood by various gov’t factions. So $130 for ransom of my mostly fictitious c right.

    That guy on the slide steel was barely able to do anything with that instrument. More than half what you heard was not done by him, it was the background song playing. And the little bit he did do was pathetic. Needs a lot more practice.

    What a shame indeed. Native Americans are the purest of humans to ever walk this land. Thank You!

  • Hedge March 11, 2021, 6:26 AM

    Hahahaha you are sitting there bashing a guy for playing a steel guitar a little wonky and yet you allow yourself to be controlled by the “man” over your personal protection. You obsess over it to this point and yet all you can do is throw money at the “man” and shit at some guy living his life. Why don’t you go F yourself. Lifetime concealed carry PERMIT… What a fag. I bet you kissed their asses while you handed that money over too hoping they would let you have your permit.

  • ghostsniper March 11, 2021, 6:28 AM

    Right. Then those evil, racist european white facists came over and gave em horses and guns so they could slaughter each other in greater quantities than ever before.

  • ghostsniper March 11, 2021, 11:25 AM

    hedge sed: “…playing a steel guitar a little wonky…”
    =========
    I see I’m not the only one that noticed.

    BTW hedge, my protection is my business and I deal with it however I want.
    Yeah, “throwin’ money at the man keeps him at bay. You do it too.
