Let’s Review 78: This Is Your Face in the Surveillance State

China’s police force is ahead of the game when it comes to propelling us all toward the dystopian future we fear. They’ve got some of the most advanced facial recognition surveillance in the world, with more than 170 million cameras installed around the country, and they use it for ‘crimes’ as minor as jaywalking. In a recent demonstration, a BBC reporter’s headshot was uploaded into the system to show just how quickly the cops could find him in a city of 4.3 million. It took seven minutes.

Who is Craig From Craigslist? The company today only has a little over 30 employees and the estimated revenue that they bring in annually from those small percentage of paid posts is a gross of about $130 million as of 2012, with about $100 million of that being profit.

When it first became available to the public on May 8, 1886, Coca-Cola was bit of a flop, averaging only about 9 glasses per day sold in the first year.

Parenting, California Style : YOUR HUSBAND HAS TATTOOS ON HIS FACE! YOUR HOUSE IS FULL OF FECES! YOU’’RE 30 YEARS OLD AND HAVE 10 KIDS! Excuse me if I seem a bit judgmental, but in what kind of world does this happen? “Hey, honey, I’€™m thinking about getting a tattoo on my face.” And she’€™s like, “That would be awesome. Let’€™s get pregnant again, because 9 kids isn’t enough. Oops, watch out for the cat poop . . .

What made Trump different from his competitors? Likely, his cunning, his almost Thucydidean reading of human nature, and his sixth sense about timing and salesmanship. In Plutarchian fashion, Black focuses on Trump’s physicality, especially his boundless energy and his impatience with nuance and self-doubt (“desperate cunning, unflagging determination, unshakeable self-confidence, ruthless Darwinian instincts of survival, and a sublime assurance that celebrity will heal all wounds”).

Complex political theories and carefully elucidated principles have no place in a culture war, or even a political war. It’s a rock fight and that means you have to use whatever is handy to take out the other guy. After you win and secure his turf, then you take a break and maybe use the off-time to think about theory. Principles are for the victory party.

Well, blow me down! Execution by Cannon in Shiraz, Iran, Mid-Late 19th Century ~ vintage everyday Execution by cannon was a method of execution in which the victim was typically tied to the mouth of a cannon which was then fired. The prisoner is generally tied to a gun with the upper part of the small of his back resting against the muzzle. When the gun is fired, his head is seen to go straight up into the air some forty or fifty feet; the arms fly off right and left, high up in the air, and fall at, perhaps, a hundred yards distance; the legs drop to the ground beneath the muzzle of the gun; and the body is literally blown away altogether, not a vestige being seen.

Almost as if something, or someone, somewhere knew everything that has happened and will happen. Experiment suggests that reality doesn’t exist until it is measured The arbitrary number generated to determine if the grating was added or not was only generated after the atom had passed through the crossroads. But, when the atom was measured at the end of its path – before the random number was generated – it already displayed the wave or particle characteristics applied by the grating after it had completed its journey. According to Truscott, this means that if one chooses to believe that the atom really did take a particular path or paths, then one also has to accept that a future measurement is affecting the atom’s past.

Take the hottest pepper on the planet, multiply it by 10, and you have Jakarta’s intensely spicy dish….. Death Noodles! One man, Ben Sumadiwiria, claimed he went deaf for two minutes after shoveling down a plate of the scorchingly spicy meal.

The untold story of QF72: What happens when ‘psycho’ automation leaves pilots powerless? “It’s not their intention to build an aeroplane that is going to go completely haywire and try and kill you.”

Yes, we are in a real culture war. It’s why the best solutions are often kinetic, as in metaphorical, but…

Facial recognition. That’s why the stop light and intersection cameras are civic abuse. Who the fark are these city councilmen, these days? Pissantz.

Palestinian dead. They have magic powers.

That last quote: are you sure it wasn’t Obama who said that? He was death on the middle class, except at election time. then he was all about the middle class. We have eyes; we know.

I got another “terms of service agreement” email today, this one from “Weedmaps”, of all places. It seems that Weedmaps, too, has widened its definition of what constitutes “offensive” language, and will now police dope reviews for wrongthink. Insult some protected minority in your review of a pot shop, and you will be banished to the outer darkness. You know, this isn’t the future we were promised. I’m getting a feeling that something went wrong somewhere along the way.

I set up a message rule a couple weeks ago, any messages with “service agreement” in it are automatically reported as “phishing”.

Looks like it’s about time for coolie hats to come back in style. In the USA, its the all-around sloping brim straw hat favored by gardeners and surfer bums everywhere.

Fedgovie at Int’l Arrival once slipped up and admitted to me that they look for the earlobes, nose, and eyebrows as dispositive distinguishing shapes. Should be easy to obscure that to overhead spys.
