People are shocked by this ad but shouldn’t be. China is an extremely racist country. This is a well known fact. Anti-black racism in particular is extraordinarily common and virulent all over Asia

Haven’t all people, throughout history, preferred their own race, being that one’s race is essentially an extended family? Haven’t every people, upon encountering Africans, reckoned that they were a particularly brutish, savage people, unable to advance beyond very basic subsistence? This recent obsession on not being “racist” is wholly unnatural and has been developed over years of the most strident propaganda by people who are not our friends.
Now that China owns large tracts of East Africa, they’ll learn that contempt is a two way street. The Chicoms come late to the colonizing of Africa party. By the time all is said and done, I wonder if the Africans who hated the European so much, that he uses his languages and political mechanisms, will scrutinize the Inscrutibles with spears and even nastier diseases.
Africans knew this at least 15 years ago. They preferred to work for Americans #1, then there was a list of Europeans. Last were the Chinese but they would still work for them, which is still true but the reality of the Chinese presence is raising African contempt for Chinese upward toward Chinese levels of contempt for Africans. Not that they are entirely wrong about Africans, but the Chinese are contemptuous of nearly everybody else as well, only not to that level. Lest we forget, the Japanese had similar contempts when they were jerked out of their Middle Kingdom into the modern age. Unresolved feelings of inferiority and superiority together are a toxic mix.

I’d say that contempt is at least repaid. Anybody who’s lived in an urban area knows very well that Chinese, especially the elderly, are the primary recipients of african attention.
Suspicion, if not outright dislike of the “other” is the default setting in people. My niece is half Chinese. When she was a very young child, she saw her first negro. Her perfectly ingenuous reaction was to make the chimp scratching the ribs gesture, and go HOO HOO HOO. Her parents were caught between being mortified, and trying not to piss themselves laughing.

It would make a charming addition to any campaign ad for the yuan-suckers who plague our House and Senate.
