I liked the story of Keith getting all new blood transfused so he could pass a drug test and enter America.
You frequently hear that Satisfaction is the greatest rock n roll song ever. I dont know about that, but I do say there’s a whole lot of good shit going on all at the same time …
1) The structure of the song was unique for the time. The refrain was sung first, followed by the stanzas. And no instrumental bridge
Charlie Watts percussion was also unique as was the relentless honking saxes that basically providing the baseline
Best thing is Keith Richards playing brilliantly in the background in support of Mick’s vocals (yet another innovation) Because it’s not in the forefront, you might not appreciate it fully, but concentrate on it once .. just one time. I’m almost positive that Keith looks and plays the way he does because he made a deal with the devil. He swapped a stint in actual hell for his skills .. and survived
And of course, there’s Mick’s lyrics, which are great; but for me thats only the FOURTH best thing in the song
They kind of lost me with their later stuff. The early stuff was great. “Paint it Black”, “Ruby Tuesday”, “Mother’s Little Helper”, “Street Fightin’ Man”, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, “Brown Sugar”…lot’s of really good songs.
Sympathy For The Devil! Is “ right now my favorite”, on a killer high end stereo, it’s amazing.
Best Album, Let It Bleed!
Gimme Shelter – still get chills when I hear the lead in.
