Something Wonderful: Beethoven's Secrets

apracticeartbeethoven.jpg

"What are Beethoven's secrets? He had many.

His most prominent secret that he desperately tried to keep from the public and that caused him to be considered extremely eccentric, irritable, and hermit-like was his "weakness." He was deaf during most of his life. Imagine that...one of the greatest composers that ever lived could hardly hear. And yet, he wrote his life's greatest works after becoming deaf. He believed that art itself had "secrets" that had to be "forced into" in order to obtain art's highest level. There is no doubt Beethoven discovered many of the "secrets" of art -- people all over the world enjoy them every day. He was a true master of music, blessed by God. This piece and video are dedicated to him."

Among many others from the lightly named "Piano Guys" this may be the most moving thing they have done to date. Brilliant in so many ways. Even at this remove it brought me to tears. Let it stand and unfold itself.....

Red Butte Gardens used to be a nice place to sit down and study math among the plants and running water. Then it was fenced off, the visitor center with obligatory gift shop was built, and entrance cost money. IMHO, it was a much better experience before all that.

Thank you for that, Gerard. I had forgotten.

But that was beautiful. Thank you, Gerard.

Humility: the sublime feeling experienced when one listens to music such as this, knowing its composer was deaf.

This music is, literally, timeless. Thanks for posting it.

I'm continually impressed by the magic the Piano guys create.

Even just watching him play the music, the trancendental joy on his face for all to see moves me.

Incredible.

pd - I absolutely agree. The face on Stephen Sharp Nelson(the cello player) is the closest I have ever seen to someone in ecstasy.

The Piano Guys music never disappoints. Anyone can see the enthusiasm that they put into their pieces and the gorgeous scenic views that are apart of the experience.
