YOU WILL ALL, I HOPE, pardon me if I take a moment out to preen. I promise it won't become a habit. For those that missed this small page's moment in the sun when Rush Limbaugh read and extended excerpt from my essay, "The Voice of the Neuter is Heard Throughout the Land," I have made and placed on the site that particular excerpt from this morning's radio show. To listen to the "Voce del Oro" read just click the link below:
Posted by Vanderleun at January 27, 2005 3:30 PMHi - New to blog - great piece. Sadly, I thought he sounded a lot like my daughter (34)! Same inflections and points of view.
Wow, got a mention on Rush!! Congrats!
Posted by: beachlady at January 27, 2006 5:19 PMGo ahead and preen. It isn't everyday one's words get lauded and read to so many.
Posted by: Eric Blair at January 27, 2006 5:21 PMRush? I'll always remember you as you were, Gerard.
Regardless, I think you're scratching the surface of what's going on with young American men. The vocal inflection of the spoiled underachiever is but one facet. I declined to read the Newsweek panic attack over boys who don't do well in school, but it doesn't take an ed school genius to discover that they simply prefer not to do their work. It's the generation of the half-assed effort.
Posted by: Rita Rouvalis at January 27, 2006 6:43 PMThe essay was a great read, and it was great to hear it today on Rush. Congratulations!
Posted by: Charles at January 27, 2006 8:01 PMYou should be proud that Rush made mention of your link. Otherwise, no one would have ever heard of Joel Stein!
Posted by: Mike at January 27, 2006 9:41 PMVery cool. You have achieved every blogger's dream! Hats off to you.
Posted by: Mike Austin at January 28, 2006 2:55 AMCongrats, but are you sure that's an endorsement to be proud of?
Rush is a blowhard who just makes stuff up to support his point and panders to his audience.
I read your blog precisely because you write thought-out commentary that is fact-checked, unlike the various Rush-esque blog pundits out there.
Posted by: Joe Grossberg at January 28, 2006 7:46 AMPreen away, Gerard. But for heaven's sake, make sure that Rush knows your name the next time. And there will, no doubt, be more than one next time.
Posted by: Everyman at January 28, 2006 8:23 AMI heard it! Congrats. I don't know for sure if it was you but I could almost swear either Rush or another national talk guy has quoted you before. Good work as always.
Posted by: NC3 at January 28, 2006 8:31 AM"Neuter" piqued my interest. But I can't find the piece. It would be good to make the essay easy to get to.

Nonsense. It's the generation of NEA approved feminist tainted homo-sympathetic school teachers. That's what it is. Oh, and not enough good old fashioned butt whip'n by Dad. Let's not forget that.
Posted by: NC3 at January 28, 2006 9:56 AMRush reading your blog was the greatest piece of radio I've heard in years. Your piece was piercing and insightful. Great work. I'll be looking for your work in the future.
Posted by: Mark Pennington at January 28, 2006 11:38 AMFantastic Piece!!! What insight! (getting a little goopy, here) Anyway - it was great hearing Rush read it - and I had to come here so I could get the link for my site; I have acquaintances that need to read it...
Posted by: Michael P Dooley at January 28, 2006 12:38 PMI have been enjoying your work for some time now. You are a wonderful writer. I don't listen to Rush regularly, but he sure did a great job of delivering your essay.
I hope he knows who you are now because you deserve the credit. Keep up the good work.
Posted by: Dixie Dodd at January 28, 2006 2:13 PMi wonder if you could forward me the article on neuter to my email thank you in advance fx wood
