The establishment Republicans (and Dems too, but they don't interest me) are going all-in on this because they remember the axiom that if you strike at the King, you must kill him. Their problem is that they think Trump is the King, and if they can take him out, the threat to their control will collapse.
They don't realize that WE are the King, Trump's just the proxy. So destroying him will not solve their problems, it'll only expose them to the fury of a really lethal enemy, and they'll never recover.
