What is it about America that attracts patriotic Mexican nationals to abandon their own country en masse?
That is not a rhetorical question, given much of the immigration debate is couched in critiques of the U.S.
The pageantry of an open-borders demonstration is usually a spectacle of Mexican flags. How odd that almost no advocate ever says, “We want amnesty so that our kinsmen have a shot, as we have had a shot, at an independent judiciary, equality under the law, the rule of law, true democracy, free speech, protection of human rights, free-market capitalism, and protection of private property. That's what's so odd with the immigration deal. These are people who are desperate to get out of their craphole home country into the US... but are determined to stay whatever country they came from and want the US to be like that.
I get being homesick for your old place and missing it, or being nostalgic. I get being proud of your heritage and liking your past. I know a lot of dutch people and they're all windmills and wooden shoes. But they love America and want to live HERE, not turn the USA into the Netherlands.
You know the reason Nicaragua and Honduras and Mexico and the rest are so crappy? Because of the policies and ideas you want us to adapt in America. You know why the USA isn't as horrible as your home? Why nobody warns you about the water in the US or tells you to get kidnapping insurance here? Because our politics and system and culture are different.
Move here (legally), live here and bring your stuff to the mix. We welcome it. But don't insist on speaking only your language and having everyone adapt. Learn to be American, or get the hell out.

@Chris - I agree with your sentiments but I am afraid the damage has been done. We no longer have a Southern Border and soon we will realize that the Hispanics and others that are sneaking in from disease-ridden countries and terrorist groups are doing irreparable damage.
The ones coming up from Mexico and Central America do not have morals and honor. If they did they would do as many immigrants do, follow the rules. What do they bring to the table? Drugs, disease, welfare mentality, lotsa babies, low brow workers that cannot and will not learn the language. Oh, they learn how to count the money fast enough but no speaka da Englis.
Their usefulness as voters will soon be over as Obama declares Martial Law and names himself Ruler for Life. After that they will be used as cannon fodder.
