When Justice Delayed Really Is Justice Denied

Convicted Nazi war criminal John Demjanjuk dies in nursing home John Demjanjuk, the Cleveland auto worker convicted for crimes he committed as a Nazi death camp guard, died in a German nursing home.
Demjanjuk, 91, died Saturday at an old-age home in southern Germany, where he was free while he appealed his conviction last year for his role in the murder of 28,060 people at the Sobibor death camp in Poland. ... The decision to allow him to remain free during the appeal process was criticized by many Jewish groups.

Your Say

I think the amazing thing is that he had not died long before today. Personally, I think the prosecutions should have been dropped once the Supreme Court of Israel dismissed the case against him there. Subsequent prosecutions just looked like beating up on a financial and physical cripple.

As I recall, from following the original trial years ago, there was some question as to whether he was the guy at the camp. But the thing that stuck with me about the whole affair - and I'm not offering rationale or justification - the thing that stuck with me was the question: what would *you* do to survive? I don't recall being real happy with the answer.
