This is a great example of the "Gell-Mann Amnesia effect" article up above, about “wet streets cause rain” news stories. Seals are color-blind (so are whales and dolphins), so they do not know this baby has red fur. The pup is hiding because it is blind and cannot see.
The headline writer has seen too many Farmville Status updates! I'm just waiting for the first time someone gets arrested for cattle theft after "adopting" a calf it finds "abandoned" in a neighboring field. ;-)
