Seeking a silver lining? Now, perhaps, comes Thermidor.

That was the name of the month in the French Revolutionary calendar in which Robespierre fell. To historians, Thermidor denotes any era of waning political ardor. Congressional Democrats will not soon be herded into other self-wounding votes -- e.g., for a cap-and-trade carbon-rationing scheme as baroque as the health legislation. During the Democrats' health-care monomania, the nation benefited from the benign neglect of the rest of their agenda. Now the nation may benefit from the exhaustion of their appetite for more political risk. -- George F. Will - A battle won, but a victory?

Your Say

If wishes were fishes... Perhaps its just the hangover from Sunday, but the most likely scenario seems exactly the opposite. Pelosi and her mini-me Reid have now discovered that they can pressure the Dem Congress into virtually passing a law that says, henceforth, the sun shall rise in the west. To think that they will cease to use the bribery and coercion that already proved so successful on the rest of the flotsam and jetsam in the Progressive's Xmas wish list is to dwell in fantasy land. Of course, I hope Will is correct, but it just seems highly unlikely at this point.

Let's just pray the American Thermidor isn't a reaction to the liberal overreach of la Guillotine (manufactured in China of course).
