Tesla: The DeLorean of the 21st Century

Here comes the latest coke-sniffing car maker. Tesla Motors opens first factory store in Los Angeles - Autoblog

Clearly modeled on the highly successful Apple Store experiment, the Tesla factory store is as much about educating the public and building brand awareness as it is about selling Tesla Roadsters. And that's a good thing, as there are no Tesla Roadsters to sell right now. The fledgling automaker has already sold 600 cars and has a waiting list 400 strong, but to date only four have been built.
Guess those batteries aren't fully charged up just yet.

Oh, yeah.... The best part is that they were going to be built in New Mexico and fat King Judas Bill Richardson was betting on them to boost our lagging high-tech economy.

He was betting New Mexico's future on Tesla along with Eclipse Jet, The Spaceport and "Nano-technologies"!

Hahahahaha!

At least we beat Mississippi to the bottom this year....

What the heck good is it? It can't tow my boat or my camper. It's too pretty to throw an eight point buck on the fender, and the damn thing will probably be stolen before the ink is dry on the loan paperwork. I'll keep my Nissan Frontier.

Any bets on how many of those people on the waiting list ever get to drive a Tesla? I'm
guessing 10%, 20% tops. The history of the auto industry is riddled with failures. The DeLorean
was one of the most spectacular, but it was unique only in the scale and public visibility of
its corporate meltdown.

"Wait a minute, Doc. Ah... Are you telling me that you built a time machine... out of a DeLorean, I mean, Tesla?"
