Sadly, the Park Service seemed to be one govt organization that worked reasonably well and actually served the citizenry. Now it appears to be just another faction of the brown-shirted, jack-booted para military created by our benevolent overlords. This, like all other "progressive" visions of Utopia is not going to end well.

Richard,
While I'm on-board with your second & third sentences, I have to disagree with your first sentence. I worked with a consulting firm who had a multiple year term contract with the Park Service. I can tell you from first hand knowledge that they are your typical inefficient and mismanaged federal bureaucracy. I am grateful though, in that I was able to spend time in some wonderful places (all in Alaska, my home).

I addition to being your typical federal bureaucracy, I encountered a great gulf in the types of personnel who were employed by the Park Service. I found a great difference between the management, who were like kids 'playing' at business and pretending to be real managers, the maintenance personnel who kept the parks running, and ranger/biologist types who hated the public and felt that the best thing that could happen to the parks was to be closed to the public, totally.

I found the ranger/biologist group to be your typical collegiate/grad student careerist, deep ecology types who were disdainful of not only the public in general, but especially of those vulgar maintenance types who provided the comforts they took for granted and expected while 'roughing' it.

Of course while they expected such conditions for themselves, they wanted no such facilities for the public. Many of these types would be hard pressed to re-set a tripped breaker.

While not everyone I ran into can be so easily pigeon-holed, far too many could be. I am not surprised at how quickly and eagerly they tried to comply with the diktats of the buffoon in the White House. Of course my experience with the NPS has been in Alaska. I don't have any first hand experience from Parks down south.

Return the power to the states as the Constitution
intended. Limit federal land. The revenues should go to the state as well as park and landmark maintenance.
