Yes, yes, yes.... I know ALL about what every bitter slinger says about "Imagine," but at this point it's all really just a bunch of "Blah, blah, blah," innit?
Velociman, who reminded me of this, has it just about right when he notes,
"It Should Have Been the Jealous Guy Album. I'm pretty sure John Lennon knew Imagine was a tossaway. He'd written scores of them. It meant nothing to him. And his worst tossaways any other songwriter would die for. Hell, I'd probably whack my neighbor for Bungalow Bill. Imagine was a dreamscape he thought up over a morning joint and had recorded in the basement studio bag by noon, I reckon. But the marketing. Lord, how the labels love to sell you."
As for me, I still miss John. I don't care what you say. You can't write songs like this:
