Posted by: David McKinnis at June 13, 2008 12:52 PMIs the background on the image of the judge photoshopped, or does he really have those posters up in the background?
Posted by: Roderick Reilly at June 13, 2008 1:16 PMnot photoshopped unless USA TODAY is into that.
Posted by: vanderleun at June 13, 2008 1:32 PMI've never understood why we just don't use carbon monoxide for the death penalty. Every winter people bring grills or heaters inside and soon enough they're passed out then dead before they even realize what they're doing to themselves. Could it be much simpler than to strap the condemned to a chair in a room with a grill/heater/engine and wait?
And when they use lethal injection, why do they swab the guy's arm first? Don't want him to get an infection and die before the injection kicks in?
In any case, I do get a real kick out of seeing these fanatics with their Che and Obama posters side by side. It leaves no room for doubt what kind of "change" they want to see.
Posted by: Dar at June 13, 2008 1:38 PMThe good judge may have a point about lethal injections not being the most humane means of execution, especially the way they are administered. Having had to have veterinarians put down many a beloved animal of mine, I don't understand why it takes so much longer to kill a condemned person than it does an animal.
The most obvious answer for a humane way to kill condemned prisoners instantaneoulsy comes from the method used numerous times by one of the men in the poster behind the judge's head: A bullet to the back of the head.
