Video of the Week: Jordan Peterson debate on the gender pay gap, campus protests and postmodernism

In which converged “journalist” Cathy Newman brings a sack of sloshing blather to a brain fight.

Nearly 4 million views and over 67,000 comments. “I’m not saying anything. It’s just an observation.”

Here’a the Kill Shot:

Newman: Is gender equality desirable?

Peterson: “If you mean equality of outcome than almost certainly it’s undesirable…Men and women won’t sort themselves out into the same categories if you leave them alone to do it on their own accord. We’ve seen that in Scandinavia, it’s 20 to 1 female nurses to male nurses…and approximately the same male engineers to female engineers and that’s the consequences of free choice by men and women in the societies that have gone farther than any other societies to make to make gender equality the purpose of the law. Those are ineradicable differences. You can eradicate them with tremendous social pressure and tyranny but if you leave men and women to make their own choices you will not get equal outcomes.”

She brought her half-wit to a fully adult conversation. And she missed she is not adult by a wide margin.

    Blather is an understatement.

Loved it very much. Unfortunately not much of a debate as Cathy Newman does little more than work down her written list of “gotchas” while being corrected and/or refuted at every step by Jordan Peterson. Also of interest this interview taken a few days later: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6qBxn_hFDQ.

Strangely enough, before viewing the video and after reading the kill shot comment, I thought of Mao’s Great Leap Forward. Millions killed because the theory and the social engineers JUST HAD TO BE RIGHT. The pernicious nature of individuals, such as this women, simply must manifest itself. After hearing and being excoriated about “white male privilege” and “toxic maleness”, I just don’t give a damn anymore. Blah, blah, blah… This form of malignant feminism will ultimately be a self-correcting problem. As events continue to play out in Europe in general, and the Nordic countries in particular, it’s looking like Islam may re-introduce womyn to their respective roles in Kinder, Kuche, and Kirche. Nice victory, girls. Western Civilization: brought to you by a bunch of dead, white males…you’re welcome.

It was obvious (except to her) that after a dozen or so “So what you are saying is…..” that Peterson had put her on the couch and was analyzing his subject. In a later Netherlands interview Peterson referred to Jung’s description of her type of argument–animus possession. The goal is to engage the victim in an argument on false terms, which they also define. You lose as soon as you engage in the argument.

I learn a lot just by watching him deal with these people.

  • Chex January 25, 2018, 11:48 AM

Let me ask you this question- have you stopped kicking dogs? Simply answer yes or no! Yes (meaning you used to kick them) or no (meaning you still kick them).

  • ghostsniper January 25, 2018, 12:26 PM

Or, that old one, Have you stopped beating your wife yet?
You can see this thing taken apart rather nicely here, and apparently that Jordan wench is getting reamed webwise. Frankly, her tactic is tired and worn out and she really should get some new material, that is, if she really wants to crash through that imagined glass ceiling. But then, for her, maybe whining is easier and more fulfilling than stellar performance.

Why Can’t People Hear What Jordan Peterson Is Saying?
A British broadcaster doggedly tried to put words into the academic’s mouth.

Er, make that Newman, not Jordan.

And another little tidbit about that horrifying spectacle, Newman.
So thoroughly indoctrinated from birth, and endowed with a psyche so flawed as to be unaware of it’s own self, they cannot even imagine the existence of or question the basis for which they pretend to stand. Spineless, cowardly, arrogant caricatures of themselves meant only for a life of constant ridicule and banishment.
This is the poison that laces through every molecule of the communists of the new millennium:

    Jordan Peterson interview
On 16 January 2018, Newman interviewed the Canadian psychology Professor Jordan Peterson on various topics, including gender politics. Peterson was in the UK promoting his new book.[33] The interview had been viewed more than two million times on YouTube within three days.[34][35] Newman has been criticised by Douglas Murray,[36] Conor Friedersdorf,[37] Nicholas A. Christakis and others as having given an aggressive and biased interview while repeatedly misrepresenting Peterson, at one point having been unable to reply to his statement about freedom of speech.[38][39][40][41][42] A few days later, the programme editor Ben de Pear announced a consultation with security specialists over Newman’s safety after she had been deluged by “vicious misogynistic abuse”, and that he “will not hesitate to get the police involved if necessary”.[33] However, it was revealed that only a minority of online comments included profanity, something Peterson denounced, but pointing out that “they’ve provided no evidence that the criticisms constituted threats”.[41][43]

In a subsequent piece, Murray stated that Channel 4 had started to create a narrative that, rather than acknowledging that Peterson was the potential victim of a hostile interview, was instead being built around claiming victimhood for Newman. The online criticism and mocking of Newman were being reframed as abuse and threats, he additionally noted that Newman had been “turned from exposed bully into embattled victim” by conflating the contradiction of certain ideas to the “most amorphous and convenient enemy of our time, ‘hate’”.[44] John Lillywhite in the analysis for Al Bawaba emphasized the emergence of many very similar media headlines which used the abusive perception to discredit Peterson (even linking him with alt-right[45]) and report Newman as a victim, manipulating the audience reception of the interview, concluding that the interview “may be most interesting for the spotlight it shines on the UK media”.[46] Melanie Phillips described it as an example of culture war against the freedom of speech.[47]

Neoneocon did an interesting analysis. Since she’s a psychotherapist, she recognizes what Peterson is doing. He is applying his training, including especially in listening, to deal with her attacks, and he succeeds. He even tells her at one point that she isn’t a good listener. But he is, and when she lies about what he’s said, he is able to refute her.

There is a good meme going around:
Peterson: Tide pods are unsuitable for human consumption.
Newman: So you’re saying they’re delicious with milk?

That was undoubtedly the most fascinating video I’ve seen in years! Saw a reference to it a few days ago, saw that it was almost a half-hour long, and thought I’d just watch a few minutes.

Then, of course, I couldn’t stop! What an obliteration of Cathy Newman, who until then had obviously thought a great deal of herself, and what an evisceration of her “talking points,” as that was all she had. She’d done no background investigation of Prof. Peterson, no reading of his work, had no understanding of his position on anything, and apparently had been told he was “far-right,” or some other idiocy. She obviously expected to demolish him in short order; what a lovely surprise she got!

She won’t ever see it, more’s the pity, but contrast that highly paid vapid moron with spaghetti hair to the well-spoken, intelligent and humble interviewer Timon Dias in that excellent video that Freddo above has linked: what a difference! Timon, who speaks perfect English though I doubt it’s his first language, is respectful to Prof. Peterson; he’s done his homework and talks intelligently about Peterson’s stance on many issues, then asks well-crafted questions of the material that he obviously knows very well. The contrast couldn’t be crueller to the airhead of Channel 4; she has nothing but “so you’re saying,” which she gets wrong in every instance.

Perhaps Newman should look for work in a Strawman Factory!

(If anyone hasn’t yet seen those two videos, you are missing a treat. It isn’t often that the Left is so exposed and naked, and that Truth so obviously prevails! Oh, and the Atlantic article is very good too.)

Fruitless to argue with idiots. Richard has it right with the Maoist “Great Leap Forward” crap. Square peg versus the round hole. The peg will be chopped, sawn, whittled, sanded and filed to make it fit the hole. If it doesn’t, into the fires feeding the Revolutionary furnaces. Anyone not fitting the Great Matrix is discarded.

Cathy’s Lobster Clause: Publicly Assassinate Peterson

Newman’s Method: Master(?) Bait, Bulldoze, Denigrate, Obfuscate, Misrepresent, Contaminate, Abnegate honor

Peterson’s Riposte: Speak Only Truth — pertinent facts in context, do not be deflected, reject ignorance, insipidity and stupidity. In essence, stand against the world of whackos. Mete out massive meaningfulness.

    Things to Remember:
The Assassin’s Creed — Nothing is true; everything is permitted. (If nothing is true, neither is the Assassin’s Creed. That’s why ‘ass’ appears twice in assassin)

The Stupid is as stupid does thereby factuating it’s own being.

I don’t know if anyone here watches/listens to Hardtalk on the BBC, but for better or worse, this has become the standard interview style there: 95% badgering and hectoring, ended by one or two softball questions to establish that the interviewer is “fair minded.”

Just another rung in the ladder on the long climb down to barbarism.

  • Morgan K Freeberg January 26, 2018, 6:07 AM

Newmanating. “So what you’re saying is” followed by a handy summary of what your target did NOT say. And if anyone ever deserved to become an Internet verb…

If you deal at all with liberals, once you understanding Newmanating you see it often. Might not be too early to go ahead & add it to the dictionary.

    ghost,

Thanks for the link to the Atlantic article – deadly clarity in a public forum unlikely to be dismissed by politics wonks, and therefore likely to engender cognitive dissonance for years to come. If you haven’t yet, read the comments. Pretty smart folks arguing with each other in a mostly adult manner, and pretty refreshing as a result.

And Morgan: “Newmanating,” indeed. Spot on, and thanks.

@el baboso, I don’t know what the name of the british news show was that I turned on late last night as it was already going on and I only watched a few mins, but the female “interrogator” was going back n forth with obviously a naive british politician and he didn’t have the first clue to her well worn tactic described above. She asked him a question and he bubbled with glee in his answering as the goal for all politicians is to shine in the light. Then she’d respond, “So what you’re saying is…”, with a big ol’ grin on her dumpy mug as the idiot pol fell for it over and over.

Somebody should gather up all the most common methods “journalists” use of late to coerce their agenda and post them everywhere so that unaware people might learn what they are “really” seeing when the watch the snooze. Knowledge is potential power and by learning the people can bring the media to their knees. When the people realize the media is not news but agenda then they can effect their bottom line and damage them severely by voting with their closed eyes. Just turn it off.

@Rob, yes, the comment sections are sometimes better than the articles themselves. Many of the larger media sites have eliminated the comments section because it usually undermines them. Most of time they are inundated with retarded 5th grade mentality trolls.

@ghostsniper: Someone needs to pull Monty Python and call out the interviewers. “This isn’t an interview. It’s just mere contradiction.”
