Thoughts from the Beverage Aisle [Bumped]

Unlike women men don’t really shop, they resupply. This afternoon I had to go to the local Safeway to resupply my beverage bin. As a man of some years living alone my beverage needs are slim but mandatory. Out of beer? Resupply! Low on tonic for the gin? Resupply! Out of Pepsi? Buy the world a Coke!

And so there I was pushing the sports-car model of shopping carts down the beverage aisle of the store ready to plunk down my hard-earned debit card in return for a selection of tasty liquids to cool down in my refrigerated storage unit.

As I strolled down the aisle taking in the immense amounts of choices one has in beers, mixers, and soft-drinks these days, I noted that a very large number of them were marketed like this:

Yes indeed. A big and obvious “NFL LOGO” was slapped on many different items in the beverage aisle. At the time this particular Cosmodemonic Globalist Beverage Behemoth paid big bucks to the NFL, the NFL logo was supposed to signal manliness, winning, sports as a pure pastime, and good solid American values. The NFL logo was, at great expense, meant to communicate to the American consumer that the product it was on respected the solid American values.

My thought as I glanced across these items sporting the NFL logo today was, “Not one red cent am I spending on any product that sports (so to speak) that logo. No. Just no.”

It was a pure spontaneous thought in that I did not think to think it. It just appeared in my mind. Adamantine.

And I moved on down the aisle and bought some beer, mixers, and soda that did not have the NFL logos.

“Take that!,” right? Yeah, sure. My own little private boycott started spontaneously in my own little skull. So what?

In my little one-man world I can’t spend all that much on beverages. Even at the height of summer I doubt if I spend $20 a month on beverages from the store. It’s just me, see.

But then I remember the multiplication tables and the fact that yesterday some 63 million Americans said “Fuck the NFL.”

Hummm…..

63,000,000
X
$20
____________
$1,260,000,000
Per Month

Suddenly the paying of vast sums to the NFL to place on their products looks like a very bad deal for the Cosmodemonic Globalist Beverage Behemoth.

Is it? Well it seems that the NFL is spinning and lying as fast as they can:    NFL sponsors unconcerned about national anthem protests: Official

The NFL’s top corporate sponsors haven’t expressed any concern about the unprecedented wave of player national anthem protests this weekend, a league spokesman said Monday. “We talk to our sponsors all the time, whether it’s raining or the sun is out. We’ve talked to them, we keep them informed. I haven’t heard of a single issue of a sponsor that is worried or has raised particular issue about the weekend,” NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart told reporters during a conference call Monday.

And another flack enters the Liar’s Hall of Fame. Joe Lockhart, media whore, come on down!

I think I’m just going to put out a lawn chair, kick back, crack a Non-NFL cold one and watch the league implode with no stopping point.

Too bad about pro football. Once upon a time it had nice ideals.

If the league folds, the players will make out just fine. They have their college educations to fall back on.

  • Rob De Witt September 26, 2017, 8:14 PM

    Monty –

Sudden and unexpected LAUGH OUT LOUD.

  • Nori September 26, 2017, 8:29 PM

So true. The globo-whacko dream team of those who Are So Much Better will be cracking open a cold one with the Kneelers of What, exactly?

The formerly Silent Majority is raising Hell and its voice to execrate the execrable excrementalists. Judge Moore’s victory is a step out of the coma we’ve been in.
The Intersectionalists, that confluence of coddled crapheads, are having their karma-uppance.
Instead of displaying some gratitude for the gift of America these dungkopfs kneel to turpitude.

  • Denny September 26, 2017, 8:56 PM

Yes Monty, and their fathers are going to be so proud!

  • Walt Erickson September 26, 2017, 9:02 PM

Look at the bright side from the players’s perspective. If the league folds they can now beat up their wives and girlfriends on Sundays too.

  • Howard Nelson September 26, 2017, 9:41 PM

Let us now praise a few worthy men:

Judge Moore’s for his Strange smashing of the $30 million Repukeagain puppet of his potty’s elitist, defeatist effeteists.

Bannon the Cannon, a Steveadorable (the kind of semen we need more of on board), Shell-shocker of Shysters, Out-flanker of Phonies, Redresser of Wrongs, Patriot.

Andrew Breitbart lives! Up your enthusiasm!

  • Bfwebster September 26, 2017, 9:54 PM

In truth, I prefer college football, but I follow several NFL teams precisely because they have specific former college players whose careers I am interested I.

    No more.

I’m going the rest of the season without watching a single NFL game. Not even the playoffs. Not even the Super Bowl. Screw ‘em.

The thing about people like our pal Gerard is that you won’t see them rioting in the streets (yet!), but once you piss them off, they’re pissed off. And there is a whole lot more of them than you think. Remember how President Hillary was a done deal because no one was voting for Trump? Yeah.

Just saw this over at Gateway Pundit:
On Tuesday Anheuser-Busch responded to complaints over its support of the National Football League.
Anheuser-Busch said they will reach out to the NFL over their anthem protests.
    http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2017/09/breaking-anheuser-busch-speak-nfl-anthem-military-protests/

I suspect A-B just did the same calculation that Gerard did above.

” the sports-car model of shopping carts” = SPORTSCART

…and MY sportscart studiously avoids commodity beer with NFL labels, in favor of cocktail mixers. A dozen limes goes a long way.

  • theduchessofkitty September 27, 2017, 5:19 AM

The NFL is going to find out they’re being Dixie Chick-ed. Big Time.

I remember the day my hubby and I were at a Mexican restaurant near my house in South TX, just as that incident broke out. I was seated next to a table where a family of six – dad at the head of the table, mom, four kids, mostly daughters – were discussing it. I overheard their whole discussion. Dad finally spoke out and said, “Well, I guess we’re not listening to the Dixie Chicks anymore.”

Take that one table, and then multiply it by every restaurant and dining room in Middle America at that time. We all know the results. Nowadays, if a song of theirs is on the radio, we switch the station almost by instinct.

Oh, but to be a fly in the wall at my favorite Mexican restaurant on Monday. They have big screen TVs showing the football games. Would have loved to hear the chats at the other tables! The home of the Houston Texans… They probably switched the channel to HGTV and “Fixer Upper”…

  • creeper September 27, 2017, 5:37 AM

A bottle of Corona. Don’t forget the lime.

  • tim September 27, 2017, 5:43 AM

Lifelong fan of 53 years. Cancelled my NFL Ticket, which I had for 12 years, hours before the first game this year.

Watched a couple games on Sunday afternoon the first week, listen to part of another the second and this past weekend…nothing. Fuck You NFL!

I’ll get my fix with Notre Dame/college games on Saturday’s…until they screw that up too.

    Cosmodemonic–brilliant!

  • Denny September 27, 2017, 8:01 AM

    SteveS,
This is very interesting. There are about 1600 players in the NFL, 70% are black.

That means that there are very close to that many ex-military people working at low to medium wages at Anheuser Busch alone, as there are black players in the NFL.

  • Denny September 27, 2017, 8:14 AM

BTW, what ever happened to the Affirmative Action quotas in the NFL and NBA, aside from the rampant sexism. Why can’t the fat feminists play?

  • Patrick Albanese September 27, 2017, 8:25 AM

Seems to me you can have your cake and eat it too.

You can watch football on free TV, just be sure to boycott every sponsor.

That way you get the product (minus the National Anthem), and the advertisers get shafted.

  • pbird September 27, 2017, 9:24 AM

Fortunately, football can be safely ignored. Let them fall into oblivion. Goodness.

  • Vermont Woodchuck September 27, 2017, 10:07 AM

All this hullabaloo over brain damage now can be explained. They’re painting the team logos on their heads and playing without wearing helmets.

  • Mongoose September 27, 2017, 10:17 AM

Our crew is joining the rebuke. We are turning off the NFL. Plenty of other important things to do on a Sunday. That upstairs bathroom will likely get painted sooner than later now.

  • Casey Klahn September 27, 2017, 10:55 AM

I hate to say this, but it’s come to it. Football players are not even close to the best athletes. They are muscle bound and big (and that means their muscles and mass work for forward momentum and kinetics), but when they are confronted with other, more rigorous sports, they suck at them. Boxing, rock climbing, swimming, skiing, running. Ftttttttttwww to footballers. I really never liked the sport. I will credit HS football players, but I think it pretty much ends there. I’d wish for them to go on to something more athletic after HS.
I used to get football players on rock cliff faces, and get them to the point where they were whimpering like little babies. It was sweet schadenfreude for me, after all of the baloney I’ve heard @ football all my life.
Anyway, it looks like the cycle has shifted and the players/owners are starting to see the light. How did people that dumb rise to such heights?
Maybe with all that money the NFL pockets, you’d think they could put something truly positive into inner city black youth culture. Start with entrepreneurship, character, culture and Americanism. Instead, they get the values NFL players exhibit: largesse, self-centerdness, liberalism, thug culture. Where are the owners on real life issues?

  • ghostsniper September 27, 2017, 12:00 PM

Played all major and minor sports as a kid and all through school then when I graduated to adulthood I put all the silly games away. I have never watched more than a minute or two of any professional sport game on TV or anywhere else, ever. The minute or two that I did watch were so incredibly boring that I almost immediately crashed right on the spot. Every person I have ever known that claimed to watch that stuff or wore the garments thereof was of questionable character. The whole institution and everyone associated with it is instantly shunnable. If you find the watching of professional sports entertaining there is something chemically wrong in your brain. This message is meant to be as offensive as possible while using not even one instance of profanity.

  • Missy September 27, 2017, 2:05 PM

“Look at the bright side from the players’s perspective. If the league folds they can now beat up their wives and girlfriends on Sundays too.” I am stealing these bon mots from you, Walt Erickson, with the intent of using them a hundred or more times this week.

  • pbird September 27, 2017, 2:15 PM

In this case, Ghost, I agree with you completely. Grownup do not need this shit.

  • Daniel Aronstein September 27, 2017, 4:28 PM

Nfl is doomed because more and more and more parents are no longer letting their kids play tackle football becauee of concussions….

I meant to add hurray for the ladies.

  • Gordon September 28, 2017, 8:02 AM

    Casey,
I found myself talking to Carl Eller one night outside a bar. Carl was one of the Minnesota Vikings’ Purple People Eaters, a feared defensive end, and played from 1963 to 1979. I pointed out to him that the Edina High School front four today is bigger, stronger and faster than the Purple People Eaters. He admitted that while he was All-American and All-pro back then, today he might not have been able to make an NFL roster.

As a player for the Vikings, he was also part of the only team to practice standing for the National Anthem. Coach Bud Grant required perfect alignment, posture and attention. He got it.

  • wheels September 28, 2017, 9:40 AM

Casey – With respect to the athleticism of football players, I used to share a back fence with an assistant coach for the local USFL team. He told me that they once brought in a couple of female aerobics instructors to run a session at practice. I still remember him saying, “… all the players are on the ground crying and swearing, and these two little cupcakes are still bouncing around!”

  • Casey Klahn September 28, 2017, 5:54 PM

Gordon and Wheels. The NFL of the Sixties is legendary…for hard hitting, and violence, and hard drinking and other things done in the Sixties not talked about today. Like chasing women. It was a far, far different organization than anything approaching today’s teams. Aerobics cupcakes killing football players. I love that picture. I one time sparred with a pro heavyweight boxer, who was a friend of mine in college. Strictly me as not much more than a dressmaker’s dummy. The aerobic output for that session was so intense, I will never disparage boxers, ever. I did make one whine like a little baby on a cliffside, though. Hee hee. The point is that sports are specific, and that football isn’t that great a slice of the whole.
Once they lose the fanship of millions of Americans, just think of the tap dancing they’ll have to do to get that marketshare back.

  • Jaynie September 29, 2017, 5:21 AM

These dirt bags are ruining it for other kids up and coming. When these young athletes go to reach for that golden NFL contract, poof, like dust, the money will have dried up and blown away (pray that is so). But these clown gorillas kneeling down have their lucrative contracts, so what do they care?

Roger, you’ll need to be sharing that clown nose you creep.

    Let’s also tell ’em:

  • wheels September 29, 2017, 9:24 AM

True, Jaynie. Back in the late 1950s-early 1960s, NFL salaries were on a par with what junior officers in the military earned. Players pretty much had to have an off-season job to survive. Now, their off-season job is to stay in shape for the season, and they are very well compensated for it. I’d hazard a guess that most of them are less well-rounded (and well-grounded) individuals because of it, too.

  • james wilson September 29, 2017, 3:36 PM

I am with the kneelers. Social justice, their own nation, their own anthem, 40 acres and the kick of a mule.

  • Grizzly September 29, 2017, 8:47 PM

I see that Monty already beat me to it, but I think that now is the time for the LFL to take its rightful place as the new dominant football league. They are far, far more entertaining, AND they respect the flag, the anthem, and America. Go for it, ladies!!

  • Ok September 30, 2017, 11:37 AM

You are not the only one. I had the exact same experience in the beverage aisle yesterday. And we will not buy ANYTHING with that logo on it from now on.

The NFL has popped their own bubble. For a while, they could keep raising pricrs, adding more commercisls to each game, selling magic shirts with magic numbers on them for $120 each….but now, lots of us are realizing we don’t need them at all. GO TO HELL, N.F.L.!!!

  • ghostsniper October 1, 2017, 4:34 AM
