Passing Lanes in the Labyrinth

The curious shepherd entered the cave and inside he discovered a corpse, much biggerthan that of a man, sitting on a bronze horse. The corpse had a ring, and the shepherd took it. Dialing Plato – The idea of “the Ring” existed centuries before Tolkien’s epic saga

The Senate is busily proving that Republicans can’t rule; they’re not even a Party. They’re a collection of losers whose jobs were safer when they were in the opposition and they could blame national misrule on someone else.  – Jerry Pournelle

How Liberal Portland Became America’s Most Politically Violent City … and it’s getting worse.

I read the Portland article earlier. It starts out with some bullshit aged story about Nazis and Klansmen vs somebody, complete with bloodshed. Then, we fast forward to today’s Portlandia, and some more bull about Antifa. If you don’t stay awake and sharp, you’ll conflate the “Nazis” with today’s weirdness in Oregon. Political violence is owned by the left. Articles like that one get the blood up. Luckily, my head is screwed on straight, and I can see the asininity in the Politico’s story. Idiots.

I was gratified by the many things on this list that my son did in his growing years. A couple: He shot a Winchester Model 12 Heavy Duck Gun at age 11, also a Colt 1911. I took him on our annual waterfowl hunting/camping trip in Canada when he was twelve. The adults in camp got drunk and he drove us into town to call our spouses, (whole ‘nother story). Suffice to say, I didn’t get Father Of The Year that year. Also, he had a slingshot, knife and a rifle before he started 1st grade.

So how did this play out: Today, he is the most masculine, the best father, best spouse and simple the best man that I know. His skill set includes professional wildfire management and prescribed burn control, chainsaw operation (he’s a Minnesota certified operator and instructor). He is skilled as an EMT, hunter, fisherman, small engine mechanic and other areas, all that leave me in awe. As a supervisor, from my observation, he has the respect appreciation of the folks he works for and with.

    Oh yeah, he’s also a heck of a slingshot…

@Snowgoose, I have my dad’s model 12, which was his dad’s prior, purchased new in 1921. I didn’t get to shoot it until I was about 15, on a trip back up to PA one winter (from FL) to shoot pheasants. Nope, I didn’t get a pheasant but my dad did. Takes considerable skill to hit a bird on the fly that jumps suddenly up off the ground unexpectedly. The cool thing about the model 12 is you keep the trigger pulled back and keep racking the slide and you’ll empty the magazine if you don’t get knocked on your ass first.
