Heimatsicherheitsdeinst (literally, Homeland Security) and TSA
have nothing to do with “catching terrorists” and everything to do with habituating people to arbitrary authority and routine degradation by government goons – so as to make them feel the same way that prisoners feel – I get the deer-in-the-headlights face from most of them.
I then go on to ask them whether they think it is beyond the means and capabilities of real “terrorists” to charter a plane.
The whole thing is absurd – and evil almost beyond words. Perhaps the worst part is the willing complicity of so many people – from the TSA geeks themselves (no one puts a gun to their head; they could seek honest work that didn’t involve treating their fellow Americans like cattle on the way to Treblinka – and that’s no coincidence, either) to the people who don’t have to fly to keep their jobs/feed their families – but do it anyhow. If even 10 percent of “optional” flyers had refused to fly until the TSA was abolished, the TSA would be abolished. Maybe off topic but, does anyone know if the Florida Agriculture Commissioner can be removed from office or impeached if denying citizens 2nd amendment rights? In Florida ccw permits are processed under the dept of agriculture.

There is no such thing as 2nd amendment right(s).

With all respect, I doubt it. I avoided flying for seventeen years (really) to the scorn and contumely of friends and family. Until just this week I broke down and flew with my girlfriend (gotta be a better word when I’m 69 and she’s 72) to be with her for a family crisis.
I did not notice any faltering or breakdown of the Airport Gestapo system due to my non-participation.

My thoughts exactly. My brother in law is a Captain for South West. They’re so busy they are experiencing shortages in Bus Drivers. I mean Pilots. Make the individual carrier responsible for safety and security.

Pardon my grammar Nazi moment here. “Heimatsicherheitsdeinst” should be Heimatsicherheitsdienst. In the last syllable the two vowels are correct in the order “ie,” not “ei.”
It seems to me that “grammar Nazi” is peculiarly apt in this instance in which a quoted blogger has married the German for “homeland” with the German for “security service,” in black humor reference to the Third Reich’s infamous SD: Sicherheitsdienst.
After having flown but not before having submitted – in my own country, mind you – to Government Goon Grope, I’ve since refused to fly commercial air. Period. I will not submit to Government Goon Grope. No. American. Should.

Pardon my grammar Nazi moment here.
I noticed that garbling of German spelling too, as I come from a part of Pennsylvania in which the Pennsylfawnisch Deitsch Muttersproch (an American adaptation of German as she is spoke in Rheinland-Pfalz) still has active speakers. In fact the German department at the local state university offers a semester course in the hometown dialect. Of course the spelling varies from that of Standard High German, but with the basic sounds of the language in one’s ear, it’s not hard to pick up the academically correct spelling.
In any case, it looks as if Miss Olive either fell asleep after a catnip high or needs remedial work in Katzendeutsch to sharpen her editing claws.

It pains me when I do fly to see Americans submit to security theater. I could have gone to Hawaii for my vacation, but decided to drive. I left Illinois and wandered east. Now I am in Williamsburg, headed to Jamestown and having a ball.

My wife is a retired airline employee and as such she and our family can fly at little or no cost but it’s always in a standby mode. She travels all of the time to see family but I’d rather have a hot poker stuck in me bum than go through the process of the engaging fuck sticks with the TSA.
Screw all of them. I’ll drive with my pistol on my hip and the airline can KMA.

Haven’t flown commercially since 1980, right before the international mafia took over.
If I ever need to cross large bodies of water or unnavigable terrain I’ll do so flying privately or with a big keel under my ass. Overall, I prefer the wheel to be in my own hands and a hawgleg close by.

My 20 years in the military has given me patience and strength. I once stood on a flight line with about 600 other Airmen in a thunderstorm waiting for it to pass so we could march to honor a retiring general. Another time I stood with an uncounted very large number of fellow airmen in hot humid Lackland Texas in August to march for another general retiring. When one of the airmen passed out and fell over you could plainly hear the sound of their head hitting the concrete. I can take the TSA’s foolishness. I can laugh at the long waits and ridiculous mandates. I intend to travel and although I travel a lot by car some of the best places require a plane and I’m not going to sit at home because of the TSA.

First, my bona fides: In my real life, for the last 31 years I have been an airline pilot at a major national carrier. I admit that my position gives me a different viewpoint, and therefore a bias.
I am both going to agree a disagree with the idea that our airline security amounts to security theater. We are all too familiar with the stories of the TSA’s poor performance on tests of their screening. Their effectiveness per dollar spent is probably not something to be proud of.
However, that is not to say that the TSA is not effective. In 2017, they found nearly 4000 firearms. https://www.tsa.gov/blog/2018/01/29/tsa-year-review-record-amount-firearms-discovered-2017 There are similar numbers for 2018. Yes–most of those are probably some guy who forgot he’d stored that gun in the bag for his last road trip, and it just happened to be found at his next trip through airport security screening. But here’s the thing: You can’t know that, and even if it were true, it doesn’t matter. The TSA is responsible for preventing all weapons getting through….both those which are innocently carried, and those which are not.
And yes, I agree that the terrorists can just charter their own plane and do what the 9/11 hijackers did to much the same effect.
But the thing is that they don’t. And they (by which I mean predominately the Islamic terrorists we face) don’t because they’re also playing a game of theater. Guerrilla Theater. They do not simply seek to fly planes into buildings, but to fly passenger planes into buildings. They want to kill and damage the Infidel wherever they can find him and in every possible way. Planes and buildings are an effective way to do that.
Also here, it is a common complaint against the US military that we get very good at fighting the last war. The next war is the one that we’re not prepared for. But the thing is that you can’t forget the lessons of your last war. If your enemy succeeds by hitting you on your left flank, from that point forward, you have to protect your left flank. If the TSA is ineffective (IMO, they aren’t), and an infringement on your liberties (which I can’t argue against), then what is the alternative? I don’t think the response that “I’m just not going to fly” will work. Too much of America, and the world, needs to fly to where they need to go to allow the “My-Liberties-or-Bust” crowd to have their way. The terrorists (who BTW, are quite serious in their fight against Freedom) are using our freedoms against us.
Like it or not (and I don’t), but until we defeat the enemies of freedom, we’re going to have to fight the battle on their turf.

As always, sane people will never trust their safety to others, especially others that have been proven incompetent over and over. Lastly, ever notice when the gov’t shoves itself to the head of the line the line always turns to shit? Do you think extreme over-costly irresponsible unaccountablity has anything to do with it? Put them TSA bitches on the border! I’m shopping for a Lockheed Lightning.

At the beginning pilots & FAs bitched about tsa. Once they got special deals (known crew member, etc) they shut up and don’t care what tsa does to the customers. And the airlines happily shed responsibility for ‘security’. Of course your congresscritter will not discuss tsa at all.
