Boomer Anthems: Rhiannon

The Iconic Stevie Nicks in 1976 at Peak Diva-Babe: Big hair, big hips, big pipes, hot lips, and (alas) the brain of a singer. But when she turned it on she could blow up the entire building and leave everyone charred and cheering in the rubble…..

Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night
And wouldn’t you love to love her?
Takes to the sky like a bird in flight
And who will be her lover?

All your life you’ve never seen a woman
Taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?

She is like a cat in the dark
And then she is the darkness
She rules her life like a fine skylark
And when the sky is starless

{Added in later versions}
Once in a million years a lady like her rises
Oh no, Rhiannon, you cry, but she’s gone
Your life knows no answer, your life knows no answer}

All your life you’ve never seen a woman
Taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?
Will you ever win?

    How I miss the Midnight Special. As a lad of 9-14 during that time, it was always tough to stay awake through Carson (I hadn’t yet become a fan). I now watch clips on You Tube. One day when I hit the lotto, I’ll splurge for the DVD set from Time Life.

    Saw about 15 mins of the current Fleetwood Mac on PBS a couple weeks ago.
    They were doing Gold Dust Woman and Stevie just can’t hit the upper notes any more and it didn’t sound nearly as good as the original. She still looks pretty decent, under subdued lighting. If you know anything about guitar you just HAFTA watch Lindsay Buckingham’s style. Nothing else like it. Similar to Mark Knopflers in that they both use all fingers on both hands as well as the sides of their hands, fingers, etc. Alot of stuff going on when them doods tear it up.

    It’s hard to believe that Mick Fleetwood wanted Lindsey Buckingham, but not Stevie Nicks. He bent on that one, and made (and snorted) a billion.

    They were also kind of unique in that they stayed together as a band through an amazing amount of emotional turmoil.

    A performance to remember. Spaced out and keeps on going.

    Been a FM fan for decades-they sure went through them changes-especially liked the Bob Welch years, another fine guitar player BTW.

    Ghost, PBS? Yuck. NPR/Nationalist Proletariat Radio. Same-same. I barely turn on the TV any longer. Usually only for Netflilcks.

    Snake, we don’t pay for programmed TV, use a wall mounted antenna but rarely.
    The trees prevent much from coming through.
    I turned it on as I was hitting the sheets and that’s what channel it was on but the signal was breaking up so it was turned off.

    Don’t do much streaming as it blows big holes in our 30gb/mth Hughes satelite bandwidth limit.

    At supper we watch an old 50’s-60’s TV series DVD in one of the 4 players. Last night it was a 1/2 hour episode of Chuck Connors in the 2 season series from 65-65 named Branded. A dood that got shafted by the army at Bitter Creek. The night before it was an hour long episode of Gunsmoke from the 13th season, the first in color. Strange seeing Dodge City in color after having watched 12 seasons worth of black n white. Otherwise the TV’s don’t get watched much. Lot’s of better stuff to do anyways. I don’t do any of that NPR stuff and don’t really know anything about it. PBS, as far as I can tell, is pushing the multicultural thing in the commercials with made-up (fake) diversity families in all the regular settings. The whole organization should be arrested for fraud.

    Today I am continuing the masterbath remodel project I’ve been working on for the past 2 weeks. Shower doors will be installed and floor tile grout sealed 2 times and some baseboard installed. At least that’s the game plan. Nothing ever goes exactly as planned in a remodel.

    @Gordon Scott

    They were a completely different group with Stevie Nicks songs. In a sense they were the backup band for Stevie — Stevie Nicks and the McVies, if you will. For example, “Dont Stop Thinking About Tomorrow” is a much different style of music than “Gypsy”

    Moreover, Stevie Nicks songs are very personal .. to Stevie Nicks. Nothing wrong with that, but I could see someone being a little shy about drastically changing the orientation of the band
