“You ought to know not to stand by the window / Somebody see you up there”
After the Towers fell on 9/11 this was on heavy rotation in my Brooklyn apartment looking out on “The Pile”across the river where the fires would burn, burn deep for many months.
Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons
Packed up and ready to go
Heard of some grave sites, out by the highway
A place where nobody knows
The sound of gunfire, off in the distance
I’m getting used to it now
Lived in a brownstone, I lived in the ghetto
I’ve lived all over this town
This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco
This ain’t no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey dovey
I ain’t got time for that now
Transmit the message, to the receiver
Hope for an answer some day
I got three passports, couple of visas
Don’t even know my real name
High on a hillside, trucks are loading
Everything’s ready to roll, I,
I sleep in the daytime, I work in the night time
I might not ever get home
This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco
This ain’t no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey dovey
I ain’t got time for that now
Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit?
Heard about Pittsburgh, PA?
You ought to know not to stand by the window
Somebody see you up there
I got some groceries, some peanut butter
To last a couple of days
But I ain’t got no speakers
Ain’t got no headphones
Ain’t got no records to play
Why stay in college? Why go to night school?
Gonna be different this time?
Can’t write a letter, can’t send a postcard
I can’t write nothing at all
This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco
This ain’t no fooling around
I’d love you hold you, I’d like to kiss you
But I ain’t got no time for that now
Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock
We blended in with the crowd
We got computers, we’re tapping phone lines
I know that ain’t allowed
We dress like students, we dress like housewives
Or in a suit and a tie
I changed my hairstyle so many times now
Don’t know what I look like
You make me shiver, I feel so tender
We make a pretty good team
Don’t get exhausted, I’ll do some driving
You ought to get you some sleep
Burned all my notebooks, what good are notebooks?
They won’t help me survive
My chest is aching, and it burns like a furnace
The burning keeps me alive

I’m one of those Neandrothals who still listens to CDs in my truck. Not long after 9/11, I stopped into a record store (remember those?) looking for some music by an artist I’ve now forgotten. I found what I was looking for but I also found a 2-CD set of The Concert for New York City. On checking out, I was amazed that the cashier just gave it to me. I chalked up to it not selling well or maybe some licensing problem with one or more of the artists.
But take a look at the songs…..

….and put yourself back in the mindset we all were in during the months right after the attack and murders of those 3000. The lyrics from these songs, many of them written **decades** earlier, seemed to fit my mood at that moment…a combination of this extreme sadness, sorrow at our cumulative loss, and an anger bordering on rage.
Heroes. David Bowie
“…I, I can remember
(I remember)
Standing by the wall
(By the wall)
And the guns, shot above our heads
(Over our heads)
And we kissed, as though nothing could fall
(Nothing could fall)
And the shame, was on the other side
Oh, we can beat them, forever and ever
Then we could be heroes just for one day…”
Fire and Rain. James Taylor
“Just yesterday morning, they let me know that you were gone.
Suzanne, the plans they made put an end to you.
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song,
I just can’t remember who to send it to.
I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain.
I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end.
I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend,
But I always thought that I’d see you again….”
Miss You. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
“I’ve been holding out so long
I’ve been sleeping all alone
Lord I miss you
I’ve been hanging on the phone
I’ve been sleeping all alone
I want to kiss you
Oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh
Well, I’ve been haunted in my sleep
You’ve been staring in my dreams
Lord I miss you
I’ve been waiting in the hall
Been waiting on your call
When the phone rings
It’s just some friends of mine that say
Hey, what’s the matter man?
We’re gonna come around at twelve
With some puerto rican girls that are just dyin’ to meet you
We’re gonna bring a case of wine
Hey, let’s go mess and fool around
You know, like we used to….”
I listen to that CD set a couple times a year, and now that I’ve been reminded of it, I guess I’ll pull it out the next time I drive.
Where is that painting of Liz and Jacko leaving Manhattan in a Caddie?
I dare say we’re still looking for resolve after that sucker punch on 9-11. Historically speaking, the geopolitical and social fallout is still being examined.
Boomer anthem redux as prediction. History doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes. Past proves future.
The truth about this won’t occur until after most of us are gone, if ever.
Just one more lie in the long string of crimes perpetrated by this rotten assed gov’t.
The frustration is in the fact that there is nothing we can do about it.
Except, don’t be one of their victims, in any way.
Then there’s this MENSA candidate: https://nypost.com/2018/03/19/congressman-suggests-second-amendment-as-means-of-opposing-trump/
Two things asshat: 1) Sow the wind reap the whirlwind, 2) Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. Incredible how these people seem to be longing for a hot Civil War. This is right out of Lenin’s playbook. Not unrelated to this clown is this recent event which was held in one of those oases of unrestricted speech, Queens University:

1min 10 sec mark “These people are not your friends.” Actually, I believe it’s much worse than that. Many of the rabid Left want nothing less than the heads of those who are not goose stepping along with them on pikes.
Oh, and since when have campus police permitted the unlawful destruction of university property?

Antifa, Nazi Brownshirts, Fascists, BLM, Cheka, Bolsheviks, it’s all the same malignant beast.
