Who Am I? by Carl Sandburg
My head knocks against the stars.
My feet are on the hilltops.
My finger-tips are in the valleys and shores of
universal life.
Down in the sounding foam of primal things I
reach my hands and play with pebbles of
destiny.
I have been to hell and back many times.
I know all about heaven, for I have talked with God.
I dabble in the blood and guts of the terrible.
I know the passionate seizure of beauty
And the marvelous rebellion of man at all signs
reading “Keep Off.”
My name is Truth and I am the most elusive captive
in the universe.

The Vault
Take It Where You Find It
Men saw the stars at the edge of the sea
They thought great thoughts about liberty
Poets wrote down words that did fit
Writers wrote books
Thinkers thought about it
Take it where you find it
Can’t leave it alone
You will find a purpose
To carry it on
Mainly when you find it
Your heart will be strong
About it
Many’s the road I have walked upon
Many’s the hour between dusk and dawn
Many’s the time
Many’s the mile
I see it all now
Through the eyes of a child
Take it where you find it
Can’t leave it alone
You will find a purpose
To carry it on
Mainly when you find it
Your heart will be strong
About it
[Chorus]
Lost dreams and found dreams
In America
In America
In America
Lost dreams and found dreams
In America
In America
In America
And close your eyes
Leave it all for a while
Leave the world
And your worries behind
You will build on whatever is real
And wake up each day
To a new waking dream
Take it where you find it
Can’t leave it alone
You will find a purpose
To carry it on
Mainly when you find it
Your heart will be strong
About it
[Chorus]
Change, change come over
Change come over
Talkin’ about a change
Change, change
Change come over, now
Change, change, change come over
I’m gonna walk down the street
Until I see
My shining light
I’m gonna walk down the street
Until I see
My shining light
I’m gonna walk down the street
Until I see
My shining light
I’m gonna walk down the street
Until I see
My shining light
I see my light
See my light
See my shining light
I see my light
See my light
See my shining light

I have listened to Ronstadt since her time with the Stone Poneys. Their big hit “Different Drum” was written by the late Michael Nesmith. There was no better female voice in the business. Her albums of Mexican and Cuban music are simply outstanding.
Nesmith had a hard time selling it- IIRC he gave it to her.
performing later in his life he would often introduce his creations with, “and here’s another song I never sang.”
Ronstadt singing “La Cigarra”. Perfect Spanish. Perfect intonation. Perfect phrasing. Perfect…well, everything. No one comes close.

Totally agree. Linda is in my opinion the most versatile vocalist in my lifetime. She can or could sing anything. She literally owns many songs.
This:

Part of my earliest memories of Linda is an incident involving her and a band that used stolen airline tickets for traveling. And also her close relationship with Jerry Brown, governor of Cali. She could now buy any airline and send Brown to the moon on an Elon Musk one way vacation to Mars.
Her politics is however, hideous and disgusting. But I am getting over that aspect.
Beautiful song…beautiful rendition…credit should also be given to the singer/songwriter—Fred Neil…one of the least appreciated songwriters of the ’60s’.
His stuff is readily available on youtube…check out the original (1967—album: Fred Neil), or try the really strange concert, The Rolling Coconut Revue, August 2 1976 with Fred Neil, John Sebastian, Vince Martin [cf “Martin and Neil”–“Tear Down the Walls”], and many others…where Fred is REALLY stoned.
If he had gotten what he deserved…he would have died a very rich man…but some get what they deserve, and others get way more…
Fred Neil also wrote “Everybody’s talking at me”

CC: oh, and so much more…
While he was still around, he probably got more royalties from that one than anything else, because of “Midnight Cowboy”…but for some inexplicable reason, the director (or maybe the producer) chose Harry Nielsen for the soundtrack rather than Fred.
Since then, “The Dolphins” has gotten way more attention…but too late for Fred…I just wish I had met him.
