Take a break and gimme some of your lovin’ for Dusty Hill

Big Dude. Big life. And who can forget the not-so-sub-text to this classic ZZ hit? Close your eyes and it’s hard to remember it’s only three guys.

I got to have a shot
‘Cause what you got is, oh, so sweet
You got to make it hot
Like a boomerang, I need a repeat

Gimme all your lovin’
All your hugs and kisses too
Gimme all your lovin’
Don’t let up until we’re through

You got to whip it up
And hit me like a ton of lead
If I blow my top
Will you let it go to your head?

Gimme all your lovin’
All your hugs and kisses too
Gimme all your lovin’
Don’t let up until we’re through

You got to move it up
And use it like a screwball would
You got to pack it up
Work it like a new boy should

Gimme all your lovin’
All your hugs and kisses too
Gimme all your lovin’
Don’t let up until we’re through

Nothing against em (I remember LaGrange and Mexican Blackbird (they all call her puta) were all the rage when I went thru AIT at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo in the summer of 74) but it seems all their stuff sounded about the same. The dood did have some seriously sturdy and stubby bass player fingers. I’ve seen close up vid of him playing and it was like he only had one joint in his pluckin fingers. High speed hinges. Same with the drummer, kinda bland. The stick player was what pulled it all together.

Magnificent tight to the End. What they lacked in raw talent, they made up in showmanship. Still have everything they ever did. 1973/74,,,,,,set of Mono Block tubes, thru four JBLs, thru a Duel Turntable, Later a R to R. Pushing 20 ish watts total, amazing music.

Still have the original album in the pile.

    “…remember it’s only three guys.”
Indeed,Mr V,and well said. Those 3 made some damn fine and quite memorable music, thank you gentlemen.
Dusty’s appearance on “King of the Hill” proved to me ZZ were real guys with a real sense of humor. Hope Dusty has a Cadillac Car as good as Cotton’s for his next journey. I’m sure he does, actually.
    Hugs and kisses,and thanks.

@A Fellow Internee at Ft Little Korea

I was at that aforementioned hellhole about a decade later. And as can be readily inferred from my temporary screen name my MOS was Refrigerator Technician, just like the MOS of that noble Native American who was so subtly yet brutally harassed by that so-called “smile” ftom that (contorting face into an all too justified mask of hatred and contempt) $#!!#*g PUNK, Nick Sandman

The one thing that I was able to take away from that experience was a frost bite injury to my big toe which destroyed its ability to form a normal nail cover.

My older brother was in the Army at the same time and claimed that the only thing going on at the time was the same thing that is going on now — a hyperfocus on improving race relations and combatting racism to the detriment of everything else. Since he had been teaching PE in inner city schools before “volunteering” to join the Army (its a long story) his real MOS became “discussion leader in anti-racism seminars” Of course, back then one could argue there were still vestiges of the real thing

Saw them with co- headliner John Fogarty at the Noblesville amphitheater in June, 2018. It was a tremendous show with ZZ Top first followed by John Fogarty. During Fogarty’s set, he brought Billy Gibbons out for a couple of songs.

I rendered my screen name as إسمي لامي (My name is Lennie to signal that I was an Arabic linguist, but Gerards website didnt get the joke and considered it jibberish, and so went with Anonymous

    Bland. BLAND??????????

    Your ass.

@Dirk, the major category would be called “Combat Engineer”, of which I was one. My MOS was 12B10
Under that category are many other “supporting” MOS’s. Remember, combat engineers are construction workers. I know a guy that was trained as a block mason under the combat engineer rating. So yeah, heating and refrigeration would fall under that heading as well.

The yearly cycle I endured for 3 years in germany (74-77) was combat training in the winter months and construction training in the summer months. Basically, we were bridge builders, minefield installers, and infantrymen in the winter time. In the summer time we built tank garages, roadways, and renovations to the post commanders crib, etc. Combat Engineers are called “Jack of all trades – masters of none.”

    Kinda bland?
Perhaps you prefer the melodies of Motorhead?
I’ve seen them 5X in 4 different cities around the US; a top notch show every time.
“ZZ Top took the Blues & turned it into party music.”
    Indeed they did.
    RIP, Mr. Hill.
