STRANGE DAZE: “For ourselves and OUR posterity…”

An American is a descendant of the mostly British men who settled the Thirteen Colonies and fought the War for Independence that is celebrated today. Americans are the Posterity of the Preamble, whose rights are articulated in the United States Constitution, whose “British brethren” were described in the Declaration of Independence, and whose forefathers declared Independence from the King of England. No one else is an American, regardless of what ideas they claim to believe, where they reside, or what paperwork they carry.

The Oldest Orbiting Satellite | Vanguard 1 circles the earth in an elliptical orbit with a perigee of 654 km and an apogee of 3,969 km. Because of its high orbit, where atmospheric drag is less, Vanguard 1 was expected to last 2,000 years. But scientists underestimated the effects of solar radiation pressure and atmospheric drag during high levels of solar activity. When these were taken into account, it was found that the satellite would last only about two centuries…

Inside L.A.’s Most Iconic Example of Mid-century Modern Architecture | “This lot was in pure view—every morning, every night,” Carlotta Stahl recalled. Locals called it Pecker Point, presumably because it was a prime makeout venue. For the Stahls, it became the blank screen on which they projected their dreams of a life together, a place to build a future, a family, and a house like no other.

Who the Hell Is in Charge? by Kurt Schlichter What it seems to be is various fiefdoms within the *dministration each doing their own thing, a federalism of failure as it were. And the best part is that their tunnel vision keeps them from seeing where they are creating huge issues for the *dministration as a whole. Take CRT, please. The PC platoon is going full-tilt on it, using the bureaucracy to push this crap without any regard for the fact that everyone hates it, except liberals. They see this as their one shot to take this noxious brew of racism and Marxism out of the faculty lounge and throw it into normal people’s faces, but what they are doing is spinning up a backlash. When little Billy – because normal people name their kids normal names and not annoying ones like “Kaden” – comes home and announces his teacher’s pronouns are xip/xork and that he is personally responsible for slavery, that motivates people to resist.

Brilliant Visions: Peyote among the Aesthetes When Ellis passed him a piece of biscuit to relieve his nausea, it “suddenly streamed out into blue flame”, an electric conflagration that spread across the right-hand side of his body. “As I placed the biscuit in my mouth it burst again into the same coloured fire and illuminated the interior of my mouth, casting a blue reflection on the roof. The light in the Blue Grotto at Capri, I am able to affirm, is not nearly as blue as seemed for a short space of time the interior of my mouth.

Why work? There are no stimulus checks for those who work. Obamacare is full price if you work. Getting up early and enduring the woke culture at work – no thanks. Work is for suckers. A significant part of the population has already figured this out. Now those who are productive are figuring this out.

About 7 years ago, some gamma wrote an article about how we need to bend over backwards to pull more women into STEM careers. All I did was post a comment that women make their own life choices, and if they are not flocking to STEM careers, it is because they don’t want to, not because they are being prevented. Within 24 hours, I was contacted by the legal department of the company I was working for at the time, and told to take the post down. The attorney told me that the switchboard had been flooded with calls, mostly from angry women from over 15 countries that did not like my 2-sentence comment. I wiped my account after that. It is just not worth it.

I recall a satellite pointed out to me moving in the night sky when I was perhaps five years old, and I believe later seeing Telstar.

We had Nike sites in NE Ohio, and dish/globe antennas visible along what would be Rt 2 in Painesville during autumn and winter when the leaves had fallen.

Sonic booms, same era. And blimps patrolling the shoreline near us one summer.

A friend, drafted in 1947, related to me being told repeatedly during his training “when we fight the Russians”.

  • Gordon Scott July 8, 2021, 11:04 AM

I remember everything moving in the sky being Telstar. It was because Telstar was big, and thus more visible. And I remember sonic booms. It’s been a long time since I heard one.

I was in Air Force basic training in 1980. We were told, more or less, if we didn’t listen to Staff Sergeant Darryl Janicki, Russian tanks would be driving down Main Street. It was very, very hot that summer across the U.S. Back then it was due to the Omega high pressure system, up from its usual home near Bermuda. We had not invented global warming then.

If you say ‘Telstar’, you are immediately required to sing/hum one verse. It’s the law.

I think Vox sipped a bit too much of the sauce on the holiday.

In 1981, a retired Bell executive in Atlanta showed me a full-sized copy of Telstar he had in his attic. I remember the dot of light that was Sputnik crossing the sky, striking fear in America’s heart. Years later, I learned that a relative who was chief mechanic at Lockheed was given the honor of waving-off and saluting the pilot of the first flight of the U2 spy plane.

Of course I had to read the peyote article. Parts of the trip report were very similar to my own experience with the Achuma cactus from a few years back. But three buttons? It takes way more than that, so I suspect a little exaggeration in the accounts of visual fireworks. Mescaline has a visual component, but it isn’t pronounced like with LSD, or Mushrooms. Nonetheless, the cactus brew was way more fun than I bargained for. I linked the story to my signature.

John, when I was in Darmstadt and with guys returning from Vietnam to our unit, the lot of us either drank or smoked. I drank. I’ve never understood the smokers, but now I can’t understand the drinkers. We all seem to be fucked. I’m going to reread many time that post of yours. God bless.

Clarification: We all drank; some smoked. Your blog, John, is amazing. May God bless us all as we stumble through this world.

My former OB/Gyn obtained enlightenment on a higher plain, although it wasn’t peyote. I had gone to her for almost 20 years and she was not only up on all the latest research, but was very compassionate. The final few years I saw her she shared her increasing love of yoga. Her previous professional demeanor had increasingly changed into an expression of wide eyed ecstasy, almost as if she were high, and she would stare intently into my eyes as we updated my medical history. During our final visit, she ecstatically told me of her recent yogic retreat to Machu Pichu where a shaman gave them Ayahuasca-a “mystical” drink. She described how wonderful the visions were and that I should try it. I nodded my head and smiled, and vowed to see her partner instead the following year. You see I knew that what she told me was only part of the ugly truth. My youngest had an archeology teacher who had tried Ayahuasca in Peru from a shaman and shared what it was like in great detail. Yes, you may have vivid visual hallucinations. But it’s because of the electrochemical imbalances that your body goes through as it violently and repeatedly purges the drink from both your front and back doors. Talk about enlightening and spiritual. I’ve had some of those spiritual experiences when I’ve had the flu. My doctor has since quit medicine, opened a high end yoga studio with her new husband, and fully devoted her mind and body to the practice. And I continue to see her very excellent partner and avoid exotic narcotic drinks.
