    I likes me sum birches, but alas they are rare in these parts.
    There is no such thing as an empty forest – they are full of life that is unrecognizable to the inexperienced.

    I used to swing maples. They grew thick along a hedgerow bordering our field. Lotsa fun. Cheap thrills. Didn’t hurt anything.

    In northeast rural Massachusetts, birches grow wild in clumps. And, yes, we did climb and ride them down.
