The Skyway to Paradise Is Open Again

“God gave Noah the rainbow sign,
No more water but fire next time.”

After a windstorm and the close passing of a firestorm, Paradise and the Skyway that connects it to the lowlands is now open for business. Connectivity on all levels has been restored. Seeing a bit of a fire like this up close only makes me pray harder for the wellbeing, survival, and rejuvenation of those who have lost everything in this plague of fires afflicting the far west.

Fire burns along the side of Skyway after a fire that started in Butte Creek Canyon crept up the canyon walls toward lower Paradise, Calif. Monday Oct. 9, 2017. (Bill Husa — Enterprise-Record)

A former neighbor of ours moved to the east side of Santa Rosa a few years ago and several days ago they had to evacuate their home due to the fires. As of last night it was expected their house would be consumed today. Haven’t heard from them since.

    That’d be a helluva feeling wouldn’t it?
Leaving your home and knowing it probably won’t be there when you get back.
You just keep thinking about all the things you left behind….

It’s a glad thing to hear from you, Gerard. Up where my folks live in Brookings, OR, their part of town got a preliminary evacuation order for the Chetco Bar fire last month. Not as threatening as what’s going on further south, but it did get within 5 miles or so of the town. Walking outside in September was like strolling around inside a Weber charcoal grill.

Way up here in Canada we had lots of fire problems this year too.

I nearly got evacuated out of my place because some damn Yankback of an illegal immigrant fire tried to cross the 49th without a visa near Linklater Montana. We have enough destructive, out of control American lefties up here without your fires too.

Seriously, my hearts go out to all of you who suffered from the fires this year. Your photo of the Skyway fire, with the roadside brush and grass burning – exactly what I had across the road from my place.

Gerard, glad the highway is open. But having been in or downwind of more western fires than I care to count, I hope you’ll take care of your heart and lungs by breathing as little of the toxic fumes/air pollution as possible. Hope your mother is okay too.

I was leaving the area Sunday and the wind was like nothing I had quite seen before. I knew it was a bad wind.

My family in Lake Wildwood (Nevada County) is finally able to go back home after the mandatory evacuation. Very scary.
