Note on the Comments

Prevent_spam_comment_in_wordpress_blog.jpg

Over the last week, in response to a few emails, I turned off comment sign in for the side blog here at American Digest. This was an effort to make things a bit easier and more accessible. Alas, the filtering system that comes into play when sign-in is lifted is a little too enthusiastic about filtering. The result was that many legitimate comments got sideways in the spam filter and did not show on the site. I apologize to those whose comments were caught in the filter.

I have now restored what I believe to be all mistakenly spamstained comments in the last four days and will be looking for others. At the end of this day, I'll have to reinstate the sign-in requirement. Sigh. It never stops.

Your Say

I often just come for the comments, Gerard!

Mr. V., you conscientious bloggers are princes and princesses, and whatever royalty prefix describes transgender bloggers. I wish I had the patience and perseverance to run a good blog. Not that I would try, just wish I had those qualities.

Why does sidebar commenting work differently from commenting on the main articles? I tend to avoid sidebar commenting for that very reason.

It is actually a separate blog powered by a different software. Hence the ask for the authentication. If I don't have it on the spam can ramp up to over 1,000 a day.

As a spambot, I'm offended. I work very hard and get no respect. Sure, it's easy to be the first to comment on a news article with "I earned $3748 an hour working from home..."
