Huxley got it right and Orwell got it wrong.

The authoritarian model imagined in 1984 could never last because it had to rely on force and the math always works against such a system.
The violence required to hold it together eventually exceeds the systems capacity for violence. The Huxley model of a world populated by infantilized adults, cheerfully engaged in busy work requires much less coercion from the state and it has a higher carrying capacity. It turns out that the future is not “a boot stamping on a human face – forever.” The future is a conference call on which a cheery 30-something says things like “progressively coordinate functional strategic theme areas” – forever. Carnival of Nonsense

Your Say

That's because Huxley's society already and quickly passed through its paroxysm of violence. They did the Bill Ayres thing, and culled the 20% of troublemakers. (One death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.) They have to do residual maintenance, but the new crop of troublemakers are identified early and quietly disposed of.

So yes, they did the Pol Pot thing. And then they do the Vernichtungslager thing for the undesirables.

You see, that's what Pol Pot and his Parisian-educated vanguard got wrong. They didn't do it fast enough, and they went after the wrong people. They had anti-bourgeoisie blinders, so they killed their compliant slave population. I daresay the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei had it correct and would have been successful. Unfortunately (or perhaps inevitably) they picked a nutjob for their leader, and went about picking unnnecessary fights with their neighbors for more lebensraum. Dopes.

Ah well, history is progressive, and we learn from the previous generations' mistakes. This time we'll get it right, and achieve the glorious future so long promised. And once again, California leads the way. Keep the tech workers happy, and have them lorded over by this generation's Left Bank Progressives. The folks in Silicon Valley willingly don and kiss the slave chains that bind them, and consider themselves blessed.

"“progressively coordinate functional strategic theme areas” – forever"

Broadcast television is the current media used. The UN controlled Internet will be the next propaganda/control mechanism.

We are headed for a future where your worst nightmare will be a knock on the door, and when you open the door, there will be a cheery do-gooder standing there saying, "Hello there, I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

What we learn from previous generations' mistakes is to make more destructive mistakes in our own time. Thus we turn ourselves to prime-evil slime and refer to it as progressive prime time.

Ugh. I have a home health nurse coming today. Don't know if I quite like it. Maybe I'll hide!
Fleming's comment...yeah.
