It's Probably Nothing: China is in preliminary talks with Ukraine to finish the second Antonov 225 cargo plane

China plans to build more than 1,000 heavy strategic transport aircraft.
In January, the China Daily reported that the People's Liberation Army Air Force was preparing to develop a new fleet of stealth fighters and heavy transport aircraft. The latter, the Xian Y-20 transport, was in particularly high demand, given Beijing's lack of a "fast and reliable platform" to deliver arms and soldiers over long distances. Heavy transport aircraft are critical to extend the operational range of China's airforce. They can be used for mid-air refueling. It will also allow for rapid deployment of troops and tanks to different locations. - - Next Big Future

Your Say

China barely projects power to neighboring countries and then only occasionally. This stuff takes time and practice. The same can be said, only by an order of difficulty times ten, for floating aircraft carriers. You don't pick that skill up quickly. They probably want these cargo leviathans to project power (or intimidation) one island away.

Ukraine makes these? Talk about head up your ass.

Africa is most likely where the planes are headed. If they are made in China, expect plenty of accidents as Chinese materials tend to be shoddy. The route to and from Africa will originate from China adjacent to Afghanistan.

I saw an (the?) AN-225 up real close, even went on board, many years ago at an air show. I still remember standing on the rear ramp looking up at the underside of the tail section. The fit and finish of the skin panels would have embarrassed a farm equipment repair shop. Cracks all over. Jesus, you couldn't have gotten me up in that thing on a bet. But when they took off they racked the thing around at low altitude to show off what 6 Lotarov engines could do. Holy shit!

On the other hand, China does have an abundance of young single men, and their energy, since there aren't enough young single women to meet their demand, must be expended in some other way.
