Nobody Home

For more than 500 million years something has been making hexagonal burrows on the floor of the deep sea. Each network of tiny holes leads to a system of tunnels under the surface. The creature that makes them, known as Paleodictyon nodosum, has never been discovered. – Futility Closet

Your Say

This is a bit of an odd statement.
...known as Paleodictyon nodosum, has never been discovered.
Right! And how do they know that P. nodosum made it and not Obama in his golf shoes.

Well, the most likely explanation I can come up with is the Giant Insects from another galaxy far far away are seeding the planet with warriors that will mature and hatch and rise to the surface to begin conquering Earth.
Kragon, Fourth Emperor of The Arachnid Dynasty will be overseeing the project. Humans will be ground to a pulp and fed to the pupae that will soon rule this rock.
Our only hope will be the Fighting Robots.
