What's the big mystery? Obviously, the 'missing' light is coming from Nowhere. Searching Nowhere one will find the source of the missing light, but, again obviously, not the missing light itself.

Maybe the makeup of light changes into a different type of matter as it slows down and cools. Something we do not see or know how to measure yet
