What crimes are people incarcerated for?

a majority of people in state prisons are serving time for violent crimes such as murder, robbery, rape and assault.
In federal prisons, by contrast, there are fewer people convicted of violent crimes. About half of all federal prisoners are doing time for drug offenses, making it, by far, the most common crime in federal prison.
