The Great War’s Ominous Echoes

It is tempting — and sobering — to compare today’s relationship between China and America to that between Germany and England a century ago.
Lulling ourselves into a false sense of safety, we say that countries that have McDonald’s will never fight one another. Yet the extraordinary growth in trade and investment between China and the United States since the 1980s has not served to allay mutual suspicions. At a time when the two countries are competing for markets, resources and influence from the Caribbean to Central Asia, China has become increasingly ready to translate its economic strength into military power. - - NYTimes.com

Your Say

I would never think the Chinese would try to poison us with lead paint on children's toy or poison our food supply.

I avoid NYTimes. Thanks for the link to Brookings.

The NYTimes has been complicit in misinforming people at least since the Ukraine famine if not longer.
Have you noticed pictures at many protests in USA have an inordinate number of Chinese? I first noticed it when Petrasis was hassled at Columbia mostly by orientals. It was the same time a 59 year old illegal alien Chinese female painted Lincoln Memorial and National Cathedral with green paint making it seem like environmental protest. We get illegal Chinese aliens at our hospital because after being apprehended they have TB

I started reading it, until I got to the phrase "like the British Nationalist Party and the Tea Party", and I stopped right there. Just another shallow uncritical analysis by a member in good standing of the Progressive Left. Don't waste your time.

China's military might is mostly made up of "having more guys than you." I would not be surprised if they did some military expanding but not against us. Their air force and especially navy is for crap.
