A fisherman would never wear anything like those. They are actually Imperial buskins. The red shoes that only the Roman Emperor was allowed to wear. Possession of a pair of red shoes by anyone other than an Emperor was treason in the Roman Empire.

I don't know about the Pope, but I like wearing red shoes because they make me feel better. It's not for nothing that Frank Baum put red shoes on Dorothy. Red shoes won't cure anything, but they make you happy. Every female should have a pair of red shoes in the closet. If you are a father reading this, and you have daughters at home, you need to buy them some red shoes. It will be a happy memory, and they will never forget it.
