Typos of the Liberal Mind

Rhodesia to Zimbabwe -- breadbasket of Africa to dustbowl: Zimbabwe Is Down to Its Last $217 - Global - The Atlantic Wire " The economy started to come apart at the seams in 2000, when President Robert Mugabe seized the land of over 4,000 white-owned farmers [sic]"

A good book that chronocles the decline is
THE LAST RESORT: A Memoir of Zimbabwe" by Douglas Rogers.

Rhodesia was a prosperous country developed mostly by European expats who loved the country and hoped to stay in place after the country became independent and elected its first (and now only) black President, Robert Mugabe. What happened over the thirty-three years of his rule has been a slow tango of decline from prosperity to a country now unable to even feed itself. It is a tutorial for what happens when a country wages war on its most productive members, ignoring all the dictums of free markets. The lessons are clear and yet few are pointing out that this is the path that the USA is starting to follow.

You can't expect a different outcome when you redistribute to the corrupt and inept.

The REAL problem here is Zimbabwe has been trying to swap the $217 for Chinese yuan, or pesos if they have to...

I hear that China is beginning to colonize swathes of the Dark Continent.

Well, a typo of the liberal mind it may be. More likely, it's just a case of the writer relying too much on spell-check: "Ah, OK, spell-check didn't find any spelling errors, so the article is ready to go", says the writer to himself, never mind the properly spelled errors lurking in his work....

Mugabe is not stupid. He knows the results of ridding the land of productive people. That's why he has actually been working to slow the tyranny (confiscation etc) that the popular will in Zimbabwe (which is stupid) has been demanding. In other words any popular replacement (this includes the current 'opposition' leader) will be worse. This little gem comes from Into The Cannibal's Pot by Ilana Mercer.
