Why are so many Jews liberal?

Despite their secularism, Jews may be the most religious ethnic group in the world.
The problem is that their religion is rarely Judaism; rather it is every "ism" of the Left. These include liberalism, socialism, feminism, Marxism and environmentalism. Jews involved in these movements believe in them with the same ideological fervor and same suspension of critical reason with which many religious people believe in their religion. -- Dennis Prager

Your Say

As one Englishman said, people who don't believe in God don't believe in nothing, they generally believe anything.

And to paraphrase a Frenchman, fear of looking insufficiently progressive is the wellspring of untold folly.

And to quote Prager (quoting somebody else,) "There are two types of Jews — those who believe Judaism is social justice and those who know Hebrew."

Back in the '70s, one morning while driving home from work at a psychiatric hospital, I came upon a panel discussion on the radio. The subject was Jewish secularism and its fascination with psychiatry; the panel were rabbis and professors of various isms.

The point was made that in the latter 19th century, the recognition that Nietzsche was probably right about society's loss of a rudder drove religious and especially legalistic Jewish scholars to find the head of a different pin to exegetize. And lo and behold, Sigmund Freud.

There is something distinctive and holy in the moral imperative of the Jewish bloodline. Prager here, as always, makes it clear that the current deathwish exemplified by the Jewish embrace of Leftism always occurs in that portion of the population which has abandoned God:

"That is why the more religiously involved the Jew, the less likely he is to be on the Left."

Exactly so.

It's a shame the protestants kicked the Maccabees out of the Bible. It's a pretty useful manual for Jews who don't wish to ditch their religion and 'be like everyone else'.
