Of Course It Was.Of Course It Does.

Martin Luther King memorial made in China - Telegraph
There has been controversy over the choice of Lei Yixin, a 57-year-old master sculptor from Changsha in Hunan province, to carry out the work. Critics have openly asked why a black, or at least an American, artist was not chosen and even remarked that Dr King appears slightly Asian in Mr Lei's rendering.

You were expecting, maybe, a Daniel Chester French? Silly rabbit, we no longer have time for the good, the beautiful, or even whether or not something is true.

Your Say

The statue has a whiff of Mao about it, huh.

That's the Emperor look. "We" are not amused.

"The statue has a whiff of Mao about it, huh."

You're right... Doesn't sit well with me at all.

Sounds a bit like the bitching about the woman who designed the Vietnam war memorial.

Bitching? Hardly. It's fitting that a Chicom put his mark on Obama's legacy. Oh, and MLK especially due to the later years of his career didn't deserve anything better. It's just a damn shame he's there at all. There goes the neighborhood.

For what it's worth, Lenin's statues in the various 'Stans also had Asiatic features.

"G*d looks like whoever you want G*d to be..."

It looks like an Olmec stonemason carved it and forgot the helmet...

I saw fascist monument.

I can't wait until they unveil the Al Jolson Memorial across the Tidal Pool from MegaKing.

Jolson was genuinely the World's Greatest Entertainer. King's legitimacy as a "reverend", a "doctor", and person named "Martin Luther" is, well, questionable.

Don't worry, we're taking it down after the revolution.

Think about all the MLK Memorial Squalors that besiege us now: Housing projects that are rat infested slums harboring violence, drug addiction, despair and death.

All the 8-lane highways that bear his initials, with high walls on either side, disfigured by illiterate graffiti and garbage. High walls to keep the highway noise down in the projects that bear his initials. High walls to keep the snipers from sniping.

All those dysfunctional schools whose names are Martin Luther King Junior High, where there is no learning, no studying, no achievement in anything but getting knocked up and drugged out, beat up, and dead.

Black American urban blightvilles would do better by simply naming all their cemeteries after Martin Luther King, Jr. At least that would be honest.

I wish I could remember the blog, but someone labelled it, "Ming the Merciless."

11 inches higher than Jefferson and Lincoln? Really?

Posted by: RedCarolina at August 24, 2011 6:36 AM

The stance of the statue (arms crossed close to the chest, legs slightly apart) looks like Orvil Faubus or George Wallace standing in front of schoolhouse doors.

And MLK's family charged us $800,000 to use "his words" on the memorial...
I thought his words were ALL our words?
But how fitting...
His words have been used as a money-making scam by those usurping his image for 50 years, be it Jesse or Al extorting corporations, or affirmative action in our government, military, schools, etc...
And ultimately we have his dream come true, in their twisted version, for in the White House resides a man who is there because of the color of his skin, not the content of his character.
