Obama Goes into Full Roman Emperor Mode. Is building a larger and grander White House Next?

US to spend $200 mn a day on Obama's Mumbai visit

Mumbai: The US would be spending a whopping $200 million (Rs. 900 crore approx) per day on President Barack Obama's visit to the city.

"The huge amount of around $200 million would be spent on security, stay and other aspects of the Presidential visit," a top official of the Maharashtra Government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit said.

Your Say

Can anyone remember what Bush or Clinton spent on major state visits?

The Presidency has been getting more "imperial" by the decade, but it appears that Obama has upped the ante with the same amplitude with which he has upped the federal budget.

Don't be so hard on Obama taking excessive security precautions. Biden as assassination insurance only works in the United States. People overseas don't care. He is putting himself in physical danger with this trip. And even though he may not believe it, those responsible for his safety do.

Actually, 900 crore approx is $203,275,000. Since Media Matters is in a major snit about right-wing bloggers lying about the $$, you can check the exchange rate at: http://kshitij.com/utilities/LnCtoMnB.shtml
Fisherman are banned from waters off Mumbai for three days because of the visit:
That 1 km. bomb proof tunnel the military engineers are building so Obana can visit the Ghandi visit sounds pretty pricey, too.
