And today's "No Shit Sherlock?" Award goes to the AP and Mark McGwire

Putz or Schmuck?

Mark McGwire admits using steroids

Really? Truly? For sure? Who knew? What a scoop! What an admission! Sound the alarm! Ring the bells! Shoot off the distress rockets! What BREAKING NEWS! If this is the best the legacy media can do for "news" they might as well bone up on their auto-erotic asphyxiation in the closet techniques and hit the rope. Nobody's gonna cut 'em down.

Seems to me that if somebody wants to break the home-run record, they should do it the old-fashioned way using Babe Ruth methods: Babes, booze, cigars and skill.

Your Say

I haven't been so shocked since I found out the Beatles may have experimented with a little marijuana while recording Sgt. Pepper.

I am going to defend McGwire.

I don't think he did anything wrong in taking steroids. Steroids are a medicine that modulates the inflammation reaction. For this reason, they are often prescribed post-operatively by surgeons.

They do not enhance performance. I could take steroids every day and I would still be fat and unathletic. Unlike booze and pot, they do not make you high.

Steroids have lots of undesirable side effects, including weight gains and hormonal imbalances, and they should only be taken under medical supervision. However, when properly used they are a modern medical miracle.

Why would Mark McGwire take steroids. Simple. He was a terrific baseball player when he came up and he was becoming a superstar. In his late 20s and early 30s he suffered a series of injuries that cost him a lot of games. Steroids enabled him to heal, stay well, and work out rigorously to regain his strength. They did nothing to change the combination of athletic abilities that enabled him to hit a baseball.

As Bobby Valentine said: "they don't shot it into your eyeballs".

Steroids are not recreational drugs, nor are they cheating, unless modern medicine is cheating.

As for lying to Congress. Hah. Those %$#@$%&*'s wouldn't know the difference between lying and telling the truth. When they stop lying, I will start to worry about telling the truth to them.

I've got no real beef with McGwire, only the way the obvious is transformed into the sensational in the reporting.

I have no beef with Mark either, he's not an arch-prick like Barry Bonds.
That, and he's a Damien Spartan.
