Intellectual disgrace
Stares from every human face,
And the seas of pity lie
Locked and frozen in each eye.
Follow, poet, follow right
To the bottom of the night,
With your unconstraining voice
Still persuade us to rejoice.
With the farming of a verse
Make a vineyard of the curse,
Sing of human unsuccess
In a rapture of distress.
In the deserts of the heart
Let the healing fountains start,
In the prison of his days
Teach the free man how to praise.

Sometimes it seems I had a dream, and, as a dreamer woke immersed in mineral baths closed within a cool, dark chamber fed by streams flowing in from the center of nowhere.
Hanging from the granite ceiling a kerosene lantern cast shards of light through the pale steam rising from the surface of the pools.
Ripples radiated outwards from the edges of my body and tapping faintly on the rock revealed the edges of the chamber.
Outside I could hear the wind slide across the spine of the mountains, speaking in a language that I remembered but could no longer understand.
Steam filled my nostrils and heat penetrated my bones until, after a time, I had no body, only a sense of silence and distance and calm.
As if I had just woken from all water into dream.

The People Yes
The steel mill sky is alive.
The fire breaks white and zigzag
shot on a gun-metal gloaming.
Man is a long time coming.
Man will yet win.
Brother may yet line up with brother:
This old anvil laughs at many broken hammers.
There are men who can’t be bought.
The fireborn are at home in fire.
The stars make no noise,
You can’t hinder the wind from blowing.
Time is a great teacher.
Who can live without hope?
In the darkness with a great bundle of grief
the people march.
In the night, and overhead a shovel of stars for keeps, the people
march:
“Where to? what next?”

Camouflage
Sourdough Mountain Lookout
Down valley a smoke haze
Three days heat, after five days rain
Pitch glows on the fir-cones
Across rocks and meadows
Swarms of new flies.
I cannot remember things I once read
A few friends, but they are in cities.
Drinking cold snow-water from a tin cup
Looking down for miles
Through high still air.

Chimes of Freedom
Starry-eyed an’ laughing as I recall when we were caught
Trapped by no track of hours for they hanged suspended
As we listened one last time an’ we watched with one last look
Spellbound an’ swallowed ’til the tolling ended
Tolling for the aching ones whose wounds cannot be nursed
For the countless confused, accused, misused, strung-out ones an’ worse
An’ for every hung-up person in the whole wide universe
An’ we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing

Byzantium
That is no country for old men. The young
In one another’s arms, birds in the trees
—Those dying generations—at their song,
The salmon-falls, the mackerel-crowded seas,
Fish, flesh, or fowl, commend all summer long
Whatever is begotten, born, and dies.
Caught in that sensual music all neglect
Monuments of unageing intellect.
An aged man is but a paltry thing,
A tattered coat upon a stick, unless
Soul clap its hands and sing, and louder sing
For every tatter in its mortal dress,
Nor is there singing school but studying
Monuments of its own magnificence;
And therefore I have sailed the seas and come
To the holy city of Byzantium.
O sages standing in God’s holy fire
As in the gold mosaic of a wall,
Come from the holy fire, perne in a gyre,
And be the singing-masters of my soul.
Consume my heart away; sick with desire
And fastened to a dying animal
It knows not what it is; and gather me
Into the artifice of eternity.
Once out of nature I shall never take
My bodily form from any natural thing,
But such a form as Grecian goldsmiths make
Of hammered gold and gold enamelling
To keep a drowsy Emperor awake;
Or set upon a golden bough to sing
To lords and ladies of Byzantium
Of what is past, or passing, or to come.

To the Stonecutters
Stone-cutters fighting time with marble, you foredefeated
Challengers of oblivion
Eat cynical earnings, knowing rock splits, records fall down,
The square-limbed Roman letters
Scale in the thaws, wear in the rain. The poet as well
Builds his monument mockingly;
For man will be blotted out, the blithe earth die, the brave sun
Die blind and blacken to the heart:
Yet stones have stood for a thousand years, and pained
thoughts found
The honey of peace in old poems.

That took ballz.
There is a certain elegance and economy of motion here.
There aren’t enough words to describe how much I love this video! Say Goodnight, Dick!
Nice right hand. That boy has spent some time in the ring.
Steve in Greens,
That was not a right hand. Watch it again.
It looked to me to be his right elbow. A vicious in-close fighting technique. I would not be surprised if when sleepy wakes up, he finds that his jaw was dislocated. That is, if he survived his head smacking onto the asphalt.
Kevin in PA- I saw the same strike as you. Right elbow in close. I used to box. I learned the hard way not to strike someone in the face bare fisted, knuckles first. Broken bones in hand for me and a knocked unconscious dork on the floor.
When our family physician saw my broken hand he said, “boxer’s break”. Yep.
The naked clown received a deadly, very high energy, hit that most likely demolished the dudes jaw bone. Got my jaw demolished too. Twice in fact. Six weeks of wired shut jaw. Another learning experience.
Snow flakes are in for a surprise when the guys on our side start getting out of their vehicles and off their front porches for some sparing lessons. Ooooh yea baby!
Thinking about that knock-out a little more deeply.
In terms of judicious use of lethal force, the driver of the car who got out and struck the naked dude is on very shaky legal ground (certainly if in the U.S., but probably in Germany as well), especially in the event that the guy that was knocked-out has serious injuries.
I don’t know all the background leading up to the incident. Was the naked man sleep-walking? Was he drunk/high? Was it part of a protest? In any case, while someone behavior may be seen as offensive, the naked dude did not raise a hand or threaten violence in any way. Maybe he responded to the drivers inquiry with a F-you, but still, that’s not grounds for decking the idiot.
A trained fighter, as the muscle-man driver appears to be, should have some personal restraint. That kind of knock-out technique should only be employed in self defense, never to make a point.
In other words, that kind of strike, resulting in knock-out and falling onto a hard surface, could result in death and could be ruled manslaughter.
Besides, I thought most Germans were naturists.?
Jeez, some folks really don’t like aggressive displays of public nudity.
ROTFLMO!
Kevin sed: “…that’s not grounds for decking the idiot.”
======
Unfortunately, in this litigious society that is probably true.
The driver looked like he tried to go around the dood then stopped, I wonder why?
Didn’t have enough room?
If it was me I probably would have went around him to my right, into the opposite lane if necessary, and kept going. If, then, went stepped over and stayed in front of me impeding my lawful progress it would have been an assault and I would have gotten out shoved him out of the way.
Regardless, there were other people about and that means crowds and I avoid them so I will not be in that position.
Naked guy stopping traffic with his arms folded. That’s attitude. He has just been done a favor by the other gentleman, and has gotten his free education and learned his lesson. He can’t say he is in doubt now on what is acceptable behavior. Shaky legal ground? Isn’t that kind of the root of the problem here? People torching department stores after clearing their shelves, blinding policemen, ripping out historical monuments, all with apparent impunity for 90% of the players. What if the muscleman has his 6 year-old daughter in the car with him?
Most guys over 60 can recall such incidents from their childhood, before it became fashionable to answer all provocation with lawsuits. This way is much better, direct and more economical. This way, everybody knows it won’t necessarily get settled in court; it might just get settled right here on the spot, right now – smartass. That has a way of making people a whole lot more pleasant and better behaved.
Ag,
I didn’t see the naked man torching department stores after looting them. If the assailant (muscleman) had his six year old in the car, I still don’t think striking someone with potentially lethal force is inappropriate and excessive for the crime of walking naked like a zombie and blocking traffic. I’m not talking about civil suits. I am talking about the doctrine of lethal force and what I saw says if death or grave bodily injury was the result to the stricken, then that would seem to me be an indictable criminal offense.
Just sayin’. Your mileage may vary and there are cameras everywhere and license plates easily trace activities. The guys will be easy to find and charge with assault?…murder / manslaughter. Would it been okay if he got out and shot the naked sleep-walker?
Just looked at the vid again and slowed it to 1x with VLC (saved it to my HD).
The driver did indeed hit the naked dik hole with his fist and caught him right under his left jaw bone, partially in the neck. That probably jacked his neck at a weerd angle and he was most likely knocked the fuk out before he hit the ground.
Also, the license plates look like european of something. The hitter looked a little bit like italian.
Kevin in PA:
A nude guy that deliberately walks toward traffic, plants his feet, folds his arms is not a zombie and isn’t asleep; He’s a guy with an attitude.
Naked people looting -or- shooting people without provocation of violence are both canards; Good luck with those, sorry, I’m busy. I understand your point about civil and legal suits. My point is, that is a big part of the problem. Highly selective use of them for political purposes by political players is the other part.
It looks to me like the site is a European country, maybe Germany? So yes, cameras everywhere. Too bad the police don’t use them to pick up naked jaywalkers disrupting traffic, eh? In many US cities, people such as this asshole would be turned loose without so much as a dime in bail; treated as a non-offense. In some cities, he can even beat up an old lady, maybe even stab her and get the same result – as we have seen in the news. Does that selective prosecution change the asshole for the better, or for the worse, from society’s perspective?
Would you find it offensive if being late to work (because of this clown) got you fired, and the cause of it got effective encouragement from the system when it lets him off? Now at least Sleeping Beauty knows there is somebody who won’t put up with his shit, and that refuge in the justice system might not help him. I’ll bet he hasn’t done it again, eh?
It looks like a fist blow to me too.
