Recessional, Memorial Day, 2019: Will the Circle Be Unbroken? by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

I was standing by my window,
On one cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

I said to that undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For this lady you are carrying
Lord, I hate to see her go

Nitty Gritty’s Dirt, Silver and Gold is one of the very first albums I ever purchased, back in 1976, while living just outside Philly, PA. I still own it, and will have to throw it on the turntable today. This tune is a classic, covered by a multitude of musicians, but Nitty Gritty’s riff on the tune is the best, in my opinion.
