“I’m deeply humbled by your prayers and notes of well wishes. My sincere thanks. Wish I could answer each email. Too many. And I’m too drugged up and spacey to manage it. Into O.R. Friday morning. “All out effort,” they say. All else has failed. I’ll stop here.”
Remus, Thursday night, July 12th Woodpile Report

Gerard, One of the great joys of your website is links to treasures like Remus. Thanks for the heads up.
Thank you, he has been in my prayers and thoughts all morning.
Thanks for keeping us informed, Gerard.
Another thanks for the heads up on Remus. And a silent prayer
What is the issue? Sounds very serious. Prayers up.
Prayers up for his recovery, and please keep us posted.
I am reminded of the absence of our host some years ago, and how my prayers for his recovery were answered. The internets have but a few good fish in them, and Remus has always been a keeper. My best to both Remus and his family.
Add one more prayer.
Add my prayers to those already in progress. When I was a boy we lived for a time, in a small town in Northern Wisconsin where my parents had grown up. My Dad would take my brother an I to get our hair cut at the barber shop around the corner from the Ben Franklin on main st. The town was And still is devoid of stop lights to give you an indication of its liveliness.
All of the old guys (they may have been in their 30s- what did a kid know) would trade news and jokes and discuss fish stories. For me this is the modern equivalent since I live in DALLAS and get my haircut at the local sports/super/generic/clips place by a woman. Remus is one of those guys that has all the if not latest stories certainly the most interesting. Same for Gerard.
Thank you for the update about Ol’ Remus. Pray that he-and his family-will be OK.
“All else has failed.”
=============
That doesn’t sound good.
I hope the best for him.
I have grown accustomed to “sitting at the table over a cup o’ joe” each Tues with Remus and don’t like the idea of changing.
Let me add my prayers for Remus- he is indispensable, and unique, so I don’t even want to think of a world without him.
May the good Lord bless him, cure him of his ailment, and grant him many more years here on this earth.
This.
Anytime I read Remus, I suddenly smell leather work gloves and pipe tobacco. I hope he’s okay.
God keep Remus and heal him.
Hard news, hoping for the best for one of our favorite aggregators.
My prayers along with my wife’s laps around the rosary.
Sat morn:
Update:
looking good so far
Thanks for the happy update, ghostsniper. Remus is on my dwindling must-read list.
Prayers sent for Remus. I look forward to a new Woodpile every Tuesday, and feel like I know the guy in a way. (Although, he’s actually quite a mystery.) Whatever his condition is, I hope he improves and comes back to us soon. It’s obvious that he’s a light and a source of humor and joy to a LOT of people – me included!
What’s wrong with Remus?
Sounds like open heart. Sudden onset, moved to extreme emergency, quick improvement
I pray for a quick recovery, although that depends on age somewhat. I get the feeling Remus must be in his seventies, at least. His Woodpile report was a must read
Is a must-read, Lennie, not was. Prayers work, and Remus has a lot of friends out here in the ether.
Hang in there Remus. You’ve got work to do.
There are so few reads I look forward to each week. The Woodpile Report is the TOP. Every Tuesday I exclaimed to my wife……..this is Woodpile Day! I pray that Ol’ Remus will contunue to improve.
My letter to him, last week.
Remus, Uncle Remus, woodpile report, Appalachian icon and archetype,
I have just read the heading on your column which says you have hit a rough spot.
We are all aware of your individual strengths and self-determination.
Your column is personal and does attract a liking or loyalty towards you,
I am one of those, I am slightly anxious for one of our best, anxious and wishing you well.
I am thinking you have a health issue or maybe a difficult family event .
If there is any way in which your readers world-wide can be of assistance to you or yours
you could indicate on your column.
I have read that before when you allowed comments, things go out of hand.
I came to the conclusion you live somewhere in the south west of Carolina
