I was in the Navy and didn’t know any sailor that picked up a tattoo. It was against USMJ regs and while I’m sure that some of the scrounges caught the buzz, they didn’t talk about it for fear of being put on report.
The practice became a fad in the US around the same time that body piercing began to emerge and most of it came straight out of negro and drug culture. Another blessing for FUBAR white people.
