Who Am I? by Carl Sandburg
My head knocks against the stars.
My feet are on the hilltops.
My finger-tips are in the valleys and shores of
universal life.
Down in the sounding foam of primal things I
reach my hands and play with pebbles of
destiny.
I have been to hell and back many times.
I know all about heaven, for I have talked with God.
I dabble in the blood and guts of the terrible.
I know the passionate seizure of beauty
And the marvelous rebellion of man at all signs
reading “Keep Off.”
My name is Truth and I am the most elusive captive
in the universe.
Duty, Beauty, Liberty, Country, Honor, Family, Faith — Plus a few simple easy to follow rules for guys
The Vault
Take It Where You Find It
Men saw the stars at the edge of the sea
They thought great thoughts about liberty
Poets wrote down words that did fit
Writers wrote books
Thinkers thought about it
Take it where you find it
Can’t leave it alone
You will find a purpose
To carry it on
Mainly when you find it
Your heart will be strong
About it
Many’s the road I have walked upon
Many’s the hour between dusk and dawn
Many’s the time
Many’s the mile
I see it all now
Through the eyes of a child
Take it where you find it
Can’t leave it alone
You will find a purpose
To carry it on
Mainly when you find it
Your heart will be strong
About it
[Chorus]
Lost dreams and found dreams
In America
In America
In America
Lost dreams and found dreams
In America
In America
In America
And close your eyes
Leave it all for a while
Leave the world
And your worries behind
You will build on whatever is real
And wake up each day
To a new waking dream
Take it where you find it
Can’t leave it alone
You will find a purpose
To carry it on
Mainly when you find it
Your heart will be strong
About it
[Chorus]
Change, change come over
Change come over
Talkin’ about a change
Change, change
Change come over, now
Change, change, change come over
I’m gonna walk down the street
Until I see
My shining light
I’m gonna walk down the street
Until I see
My shining light
I’m gonna walk down the street
Until I see
My shining light
I’m gonna walk down the street
Until I see
My shining light
I see my light
See my light
See my shining light
I see my light
See my light
See my shining light

If any of the ruling class in Washington DC saw this, they would erupt into a spittle-flecked rage. How dare “We the People” show such love of nation? The elites believe that there is not room enough in the US for both them and us.
They are correct.
I can remember when everyone in a sports stadium (fans as well as players) joined in singing our national anthem– rather than having to stand quietly while some narcissistic soloist uses it to show off their ability to play games with the melody and rhythm. Counter-example: the USA players and the fans at the Rugby World Cup, played in London in 2015:

“Play La Marseillaise. Play it, I tell you.”
Ok.

Almost makes me like the French. Almost.
the extras, several, were refugees at the time. the old waiter, SZ Sakall, was the sum of his family that escaped europe. by chance, I know his third cousin, we worked in the film business together.
great book, “the usual suspects” chronicles the film thoroughly.
knowing full well what will happen I’ll wait in suspense for Claude Raines to say the perfectly timed final “round up the usual suspects”, then choke up. done it maybe thirty times.
I just saw it again for the 50th time. Such a great, classic film.
+1
I get the same effect from the closer in “stalag 17”. edge of my chair. perfectly timed.
random note- when asked who was attending to an assigned task we’d always reply “Manfredi and Johnson.”
a favorite.
five nations football tournament some years back. there is no welsh national anthem, and this is the welsh national anthem.
“my nation”-

– the hairy guy brought to a tear is adam jones. I wish I gave a damn about something as much as these guys did.
The National Anthem sounds the best when we all sing together. It’s about the only thing we can do—together. I wish the professional sporting teams would encourage this in their stadiums. My fondest hope is that a musical talent of rare courage and honor will invite us all to stand and sing together, while he or she leads us.
yes, and I’ll take it straight, at that. as mentioned above I don’t need a cloned hyperbolic electrocuted Tina Turner version set on “cartoon voice.”
To be honest, what struck me is that the stadium was full………………for a soccer match.
The land of the free, and the home of the brave. Fuck Biden!
